Especially when someone would pour gas on the dirt to dry it out even quicker!

 

Played my last HS baseball game their, when we lost to Holmes 1-0 in a 34th District Tourney game, as former Atlanta Braves SS Leo Foster not only beat us with his bat but on the hump as well....to this day, IMHO Leo is the best HS SS that I have ever seen play from NKy!

Foster had one of the more unfortunate debuts in Major League history, when playing his first game for the Braves against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium on July 9, 1971. Fielding at shortstop, he commits an error on the first ball hit to him. After flying out in the 3rd inning, Foster hits into a double play in the 5th inning, followed by hitting into a triple play in the 7th inning

I was just a kid back in the Leo Foster days but I always remember going down to the ballfield to see him play whenever he came to Ludlow. Outstanding player and was a tremendous all around athlete.

I would have to throw Walton in the conversation. They have a very nice ballpark.

I have heard great things about their field. Unfortunately the last 2 years when we were supposed to play there we've been rained out. So I'm still trying to get there to see their field.

 

Cooper's infield is pretty sweet, outfield needs work but is slowly coming around.

St Henry is the best park to watch a game, Conner's is the worst with the visitors duggout being beyond the first base really makes it tough to watch games there.

 

As far as fields themselves, Boone may be the wrost shape in the area.

 

 

Oh and I can't leave out SK, very nice setup and great looking field.

I'll admit I haven't been to may HS baseball games but I find it hard to believe SK doesn't have the best view of the game. You can sit on the hill which could be compared to MLB box seats and have a great view. How many other fields sit in a lake bed?

Really like Dixie's field, but I think over the past few years it's gotten a little rough.

That is so true...forgot about that field. I remember when I was growing up and playing there theyhad several fields in that spot.....i'm showing my age now.

Played on the Ludlow field for several years and I always enjoyed the view of the river and hearing all of the Assistant Coaches up by the fence shouting out encouragement or getting on the umpire. Most of all as a lefthanded batter I loved the 280 feet to the rightfield fence.

Or the left field into the backyard of that house lol.

Best:

 

1. St. Henry. Great atmosphere and best field. 2005 region finals was unreal. Wish it was still there.

2. Dixie. Neat park with short left field. Field has gotten rougher but still good.

3. CCH. Great views and wood fence with different dimensions and easily best concession.

4. SK. The bowl affect is awesome. Field much better than it used to be.

5. Cooper. Getting better every year. Probably the best infield.

 

Worst:

 

1. Meinken. Awful.

2. Conner. Does anyone work on it?

3. Beechwood. Very little seating, all grass infield and have they installed a fence in center or right yet?

4. Ryle. Not much seating, no concession and ALWAYS windy and wet or so it seems.

5. NCC. The park is not bad and the people always seem to treat you great but the field is just not good.

 

I haven't seen Walton's field but heard nice things about it. Had to leave it off since I haven't seen it.

The Bellevue Vets is nice enough to let us use there field, keep in mind without that we would have nothing. But any improvements that are made must pass through them,its a multi-purpose field, nkyfl tigers practice, mens softball league 65 ft. bases, fireworks and starter bowl parking(automobles) sometimes in the rain,and several other teams throughout the summer. So when you visit here give Coach Sanders a break, be greatful for what he has to work with.

Dixie is one of the best to look at and to watch but the infield is as rough as a gravel driveway.

 

Cooper's infield is as nice as can be but the outfield is still a work in progress. Coach Bieger and his helpers have put a ton of work in the place.

While I understand the bolded parts to an extent, I would have to disagree. In the past, yes the infield did get a little rough. However, the past year or two I know Coach Maxwell, his staff and players have put a lot of work into the infield (i.e. new dirt, turning it over frequently, top dressing, watering before games to soften it, etc..) which has pretty much eliminated the "roughness".

It's not the dirt that is rough so turning it is what everyone does and it is fine. The grass part the last two years was surprisingly bad just for the fact the place looks so nice there to watch a game. I watched balls hit in warmups that seemed to go six different directions before reaching a fielder. I'm sure the coaching staff is working on it but it is rough.

Boone is the worst I've seen.

 

Even over Meinken? :confused:
