Ryle is like that. It's as if you are playing the game atop Mt Everest the wind is so strong there.

Disagree. Nice place to watch a game. You can either sit right behind the backstop if you want to be close or you can bring a chair and sit in the shade on the hill.

Best:

 

1. St. Henry. Great atmosphere and best field. 2005 region finals was unreal. Wish it was still there.

 

Quast v Curley. Outstanding game.

4. Ryle. Not much seating, no concession and ALWAYS windy and wet or so it seems.

Ryle's field by itself is one of the tops. It's just that the other things you mention hurt it.

Campbell County has a nice field, I don't know where you can build a field where the wind doesn't blow.

As for the best fields in NKY, I think everyone knows that St. Henry takes the cake. Dixie and Cov Cath are two other really nice fields to watch baseball at.

 

As for the worst. Boone County probably has the worst high school baseball field I've seen in a long time. With the football and soccer teams practicing on it, it has been torn to shreds. It also doesn't help that they don't work on it at all. Meiken and Conner are both awful fields. Conner shortstops have to be goalies as much as shortstops there and Meiken speaks for itself.

I've seen all of these fields and I think Walton's is the best maintained field in the area. The grass looks like a golf course and the infield gives very few bad hops. Additionally, the bleachers provide good viewing and the concessions and rest rooms are right their.

Ryle's actual playing surface plays about as well as anywhere. I very much disagree that it's always wet. We've mixed tons and tons of conditioner into the dirt over the past few years and it drains very nicely. However, I very much agree that the wind is always an issue there. I was told that Ryle is one of the highest points in the county, so just not much chance for the wind to get knocked down. The seating - ugh!!! Just no money in the budget to buy some more decent seating. Trust me, we've looked into it. A decent set of stands will easily run $10K. And also agree on the lack of decent concession setup. One day maybe these things can be fixed, but it's a slow process. The baseball program literally gets no money from the school, so not a lot of capital to do major projects.

Thanks! I'm sure I will. Enjoy seeing the improvements that place has undergone over the past few years and the Tigers normally put on a good show as well.

I will disagree with one part of your statement. The team and coaches work on the field once the football team has tore it pieces. So, don't make it as if, players and coaches don't care what the field looks like. They are out there on off days and after practices putting work in. The problem is, it really doesn't start looking decent until the season is almost over.
