Yes, I believe that was the problem in the first place. I think they skip 8th grade for a "transition year". But he came to Highlands when he would have been the same age as the grade he is in currently. I thought it was definately a stretch, but who knows with the board.

Latin is Covington Latin High School which is an accelerated high school. Most kids enter when they are 7th grade age but they enter as 9th graders.

I can't find the article but I think we discussed it on here. A kid went to Latin for 3 years then decided to switch to St Henry and in what would have been his fourth year of high school , he enrolled as a JR at St Henry. The KHSAA said that he would not have any eligibility for track since a)he had to sit out a year due to transferring and b)that year would have been his fourth year of high school. The fact that he is of "normal" age for a JR was irrelevant.

Unfortunately, you are incorrect on several matters. He is still ineligible, but is contesting the KHSAA's decision. He currently is a junior and if he gets to play next year, it will be as senior. He was initially ineligible his freshman and sophomore years at Highlands because of the rule that if you repeat a grade, you are ineligible to play that year. Since Latin school considers their first two years to be the freshman and sophomore years, when he transferred to Highlands he "repeated" those two years. For those of you not in the know, you start Latin after the 6th grade and skip the 7th and 8th grades. Your first year there is as a freshman. Its a 4 year high school. Its not for the average intellect student. Anyway, Ledney spends two years there, doesn't participate one iota in sports and his family decides its not working and wants to enroll him in a traditional high school and chooses Highlands. Again, it was not for athletics. Heck the kid played no sports whatsoever at Latin. Under the KHSAA rules, he can't play the first two years at Highlands because in their interpretation he repeating the freshman and sophomore years. He appeals to the BOC of the KHSAA and they refuse to waive the rule, although they have the power to do so.

 

Which brings us to Vince's junior year. He's no longer repeating a grade so he doesn't have that rule to contend with. Unfortunately, there is also a rule that says you only have 4 years of high school eligibility (unless there is a medical problem forcing you to miss school). Vince is of the same age as everyone else in his grade, did not play any sports at Latin so he has no advantage over his peers and he's only in this predicament because of the unusual nature of Latin. All of this was explained to the Board and all but a few basically said "tough noogies".

 

And yet,there are some people out there who believe the KHSAA doesn't enforce the rules. In my mind they should have waived the rule because Ledney is not violating the spirit or intent of the rule, but because of silly people ( a lot of whom are coaches, ADs and principals) who, without knowing the facts, go around constantly stating the KHSAA is not enforcing the rules, an attitude has developed at the KHSAA that looks at every transfer as wrong and every request for eligibilty as an opportunity to prevent a kid from playing instead of the other way around. As I said in another post defending the KHSAA, they are only human. I understand that. They are going to have flaws. And I think the decision making in re Ledney is a perfect example of one of those flaws. Hopefully it can be rectified by the courts because the KHSAA botched it big time.

I agree with Hudy throwing the ball last year, but I think that Clay will be a more physical type running Qb than Chase. I'm not to sure how much Chase liked getting hit this year.

Who was the last "successful" HHS running QB?? Bert Bathiany SR.???? It's not that Chase couldn't run....he didn't. ..which took away the advantage of having a QB that is a running threat. If the QB is a "runner" primarily, look for NKY teams to load up on game tapes of X and LexCath...8-10 in the box and coming hard in the gaps!!

That remains to be seen...... as does Dino's comment that you responded too. Based off last season's results....as well as what tradition has showed us..... the regional title is indeed a two way race between Rock and Bell with Rock having the obvious advantage.

 

The best 3 teams in the region last year were Rock, Bell, & Madison Southern. Madison Southern is hurting from graduation meaning that Ashland and Johnson Central will have a shot..... but Bell and Rock return practically everything, and that doesnt bode well for the rest the teams in the region. If it doesnt come down to Rock and Bell I will be completely suprised..... and it will take a complete upset of one of those 2 teams in order for Rock and Bell not to meet in the regional finals.

How about that Bullit East team what do they have coming back, will they have enough to keep Boyle and Bowling green at home.

This will be a bit of a rebuilding year for BE, but by the end of next season the Chargers could be pretty strong. Look for BE to make another strong push in 2007 & 2008.

With all of the RBs the birds will have, why would you run your QB? He will pass the ball and hand off to running backs. The offense for HHS will be potent in 06. Big strong athletic line, great backs, awesome recievers and a very good QB (yes inexperienced) all add up to a lot of points. On the other side of the ball, another great defensive squad. I can't wait till fall! :dancingpa

I agree with everything except the wide reciever spot. I think that is going to be a big question mark for the birds in the upcoming season. Other than the two tights, I am not sure if I can say that is one of the strengths this year.
