December 30, 201213 yr Call me crazy, but Cauley Stein may have the highest ceiling of talent of any player that Cal has brought to UK... If Poythress can figure it out, UK will be scary in 2 months... I am not a Mayes fan... If he can't hit shots, not sure what more he brings. I would rather have Polson in the game. Polson went and got a rebound late in second half... I wish Polson would look to shoot a little more.

December 30, 201213 yr I saw effort & more toughness than I've seen out of UK all year. I saw Harrow play very well, despite not shooting well. 0 Turnovers for #12. As Clizzy said, Archie giveth & taketh away, but at least he giveth something. The same cannot be said for that most incredible waste of talent named Alex Poythress. 7 ever-loving points in 15 minutes of action. The old Tubby quote about Azubuike--"Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane"--isn't even appropriate for him. He's gone from my overwhelming favorite player pre-season to my overwhelming least favorite player. It was sloppy, but all UK/UL games during the Cal/Pitino era have been that way. Cards foul trouble enabled the Cats to get back in the game. Siva, Smith & Behanan carried the team as they should have. Siva's 3's came in the 1st half, but they were important ones. Smith is very explosive in the open floor. He's erratic at times, ala Archie, but it's hard to fault the effort. Bluto pointed out what jumped at me the most...statistically an even game except at the charity stripe. Game is a different story if the Cats drain a few more freebies. Cauley-Stein (0-4) & Poythress (2-6) missed 8 of UK's 12 FT's. Those will kill any team. All in all--and I don't say this to be a UL hater, even though I do hate UL--I see this as UL's best squad in the Cal era & UK's worst squad during the same era. Cats lose by 3 on the road. I would have loved to win...loved it...but I'm fine with the outcome (excluding Poythress). I still don't see UK being a contender come March. I do see UL being a Final Four type of team, but to be championship caliber they're going to need Blackshear to assume a greater scoring role. He is their most talented player IMO.

When you play 35 minutes in a game like this and don't shoot a foul shot, you aren't very aggressive. 35 min played... 3 points on 1-8 shooting... 2 TO, 2 assist, 3 rebounds, 3 fouls... Not exactly tearing it up IMO
December 30, 201213 yr I don't know his personality, but I would not be surprised if Noel emerged as UK's leader. Siva went brain dead on his last 3 fouls. Dieng was rusty--he will soon be better than he was today. I think it was a very positive game for the Cats despite the loss. Now, as a young team, they have to learn to give that effort every game. That is the surest way to improve.

Polson is one of those players that terrifies a fan when they see him come in. Like you said, he's fine against a certain level, but any team worth their salt he will hurt UK.

December 30, 201213 yr Polson came in for about 8 seconds in the first half and Russ Smith smothered him. Luckily Smith fouled him but Cal knew he was over his head and pulled him.

Maybe Cal can appeal to NCAA for rule change...go to the old ABA rule 3 to make 2.
