Chane made one legit offensive move while scoring 20 points. He's no different than Russ in terms of producing consistent offense to balance the clear flaws in his game. Please tell me you were joking on this one... :idunno:

I still think Poythress will be back next year. He is not ready, and with many more showings like today his NBA stock is going to drop. But even if he does return he will have a difficult time breaking the starting lineup. He has tons of talent but its up to him to put it to use. This is just my opinion and most on here don't seem to agree.

 

I completely agree on Poythress not being Pro ready, but the lackluster draft class combined with who UK has coming in tells me he's going to leave. Even if he drops, he's a sure-fire 1st round pick because of his body & the oft-mentioned "upside."

If you watch closely on replay, NN grabs Dieng by the arm and prevents him from sliding over to stop WCS. May have been a blessing since Dieng likely picks up a foul if NN doesn't hold him. Also, good play by NN since it wasn't called.

 

Think some of Goodwin's performance may be ”fool's gold." He didn't start to thrive until Siva & Smith had 4 fouls and had to back off. He is clearly capable of making shots, but needs to do it when the defense is on him.

 

Think both teams got better. If I were a UK fan, I would be worried that the weak SEC will not provide enough quality competition to help them improve as much as they need to by tourney time.

 

As for UofL, they will get plenty of competition. They need Ware &/or Hancock to step up as a quality backup for S&S. They need B&B to continue to progress and get solid minutes from Harrell, Price and Van Treese as backups at the 3, 4 & 5. If they can go 10 deep, if necessary, they will be ready for the 6-game run required to win a national championship. All you can do is ask for them to be ready and prepared.

Smith is erratic, but he puts it all out there. You have to take the good with the bad. I think the good usually outweighs the bad with him, at least from what I've seen.

They don't have anyone you can just give the ball to late in a game and feel confident you are getting a bucket. I'd say at this point Siva would be the best option there now that his jumper is falling with some consistency. Russ is both great and horrible in any random 2 minute stretch, and if you are putting him in the position to close a game out the result will always be 50/50 at best. Chane is very good on the glass and has an innate feel for how to get wide open dunks, but as a half court threat he is reduced to waiting for his man to leave on weak side help.

 

Like every team in the country this year UL has some serious flaws, but with the way they can keep you totally out of your offense and apply spurts of relentless pressure they will be a threat to win it all. There are very few teams with enough offensive firepower to really exploit those weaknesses. UK did so for the stretch that Siva, Smith and Dieng picked up their 4th fouls until the final horn. As flawed as UK will be at times this year, they still have guys that can score outside the typical design of the offense. That also makes them a dangerous draw even if they aren't likely to play past the Sweet 16...

I think Rick made a major mistake when the Cards went up 17. He sat Siva & Chane that was letting up off the throat when the Cats were about to pass out.

If they win the title Smith is going to be the hero. If they don't he will be the one that cost them the game they lose whenever that is. Just the reality of how he plays the game. All risk, and potentially all reward. Only time will tell...

I'm happy that the Cards won yesterday, but worry some with how the game progressed toward the end. I still believe that they are really good and deep; once Dieng is back to 100%, they will be scary if the rest of them stays healthy. UK definitely challenged them though; I'm looking forward to watching both come March.

He played well toward the end of the season last year & hasn't taken off like I imagined he would. I think he was getting 10 a game coming into this one, but I'm not sure.

I watched Louisville beat Kentucky today and I'm not going back to my office until Wednesday.
