I think we all agree that it's flawed. However, I don't see how it can be any better.

 

As far as Morgan he's obviously very good but it sounds like you're in the same boat as me - how do we know?

 

The comment we often hear on these teams when talking about an omission is who would you take off the team. Mr. Sixer said there are 7 players named that he would take Morgan over top of so he knows about those 7.

Kyle is an outstanding QB, but had a rough year due to an injury. Should a player that fits this profile make the ALL STATE TEAM? If so, why?

First I'm not asking for any of the players to be taken off so I want to be clear on that. I have players i may have moved around and included others but not removed. The point I make about seeing others play is MY opinion about who I would take based upon seeing in person or, as equally important, head to head competition.

 

As far as fixing the system, I believe Skinner stated that nominations are given but no stats or info is shared if I read his post correctly. To me, if I'm nominating a player it would seem that I would need to back up that nomination with some justification, ie. homework. That's the part of the process, if that's is the way it's conducted, that from an outside perspective that could be fixed.

 

Like I've said, it is what it is and congratulations to ALL the players that were named as they are very deserving.

Lets just say that all the kids that were named were deserving, of course there are omissions, there always are. Gives us something to talk about. Congrats to Max Nussbaum, I know that he deserved to be named on the second team.

Morgan didn't get nominated so it's a moot point. Each player I submitted I made sure to include all the positions they played (i.e. Collins as a RB/DB; Dylan Hayes as RB/DB; Nussbaum as a RB/LB, etc.).

 

Here were the players nominated from this area (11 were from the coaches and four were from me I won't say which was which):

Max Nussbaum, Cameron Fogle, Drew Barker, Blake Bir, Tyler Durham, Seth Hope, Mitch Dee, Donovan McCoy, A.J. Collins, Tyler Morris, Cole Mosier, Dylan Hayes, Tyshawn Embs, Jared Bowling, Jonathan Scruggs). So the question is who do you take off the list?

He was also on the Best of the Bluegrass roster. How this team is picked is screwey.. But as others have stated, the media has a big say it in, so if they don't see the kid, or hear much about him, he won't get the votes. With Carroll Co. being a smaller school, and not making a big push in the playoffs, there isn't much exposure for them around the state. I think it's silly, but there's not much can be done about it.

Scruggs is good but is inconsistent.

Congrats to Jared Bowling from Simon Kenton. Disappointed that he didn't make 2nd team. Several guys listed that weren't better than him.

 

School record for tackles, playing 6A, played great in the Best of the Bluegrass, NKY Top 12, etc.....

I thought everyone nominated earned honorable mention. Obviously not, because two of my/coaches nominees didn't earn honorable mention (Durham and Embs). I am assuming then that a player had to earn at least one vote to be named honorable mention.

 

We voted for a first team and a second team (1 QB for each, 2 RB for each, 3 WR, 5 OL, 1 K; 4 DL, 4 LB, 4 DB, 1 P).

 

The reason there were some multiple picks on either the first team or second team was I am assuming due to a tie in the voting process.

 

Embs had a great season, but with technically only four running backs being voted for (2 first team and 2 second team) I can see how he didn't receive a vote.

I read this thread every year and want to congratulate all who made this pretigious nomination. Northern Kentucky never gets the love from around the state. Like Mayfield sportsfan said he was happy to get an opportunity to watch Max Nussbaum from Beechwood play. I myself loved this young man I also was empressed by Jonathan Jackson of Mayfield whom I watched several times live an on film. What a player WOW. There are always players that will not get mentioned and picked. This is what all star teams are about. If they go out and play they are all ALL STARS to me for taking the extra time to participate. For the individuals that get to pick these players I feel for also because how could anyone get around to see all of these young men player during a season. It is tough here in N. Would you agree a lot of the lack of recognition comes from lack of nominations from the local coaches or AD's? Never do you see all coaches voting when there is a top 10 coaches poll. Also I know several AD's who almost never nominate athletes for their hall of fame.

That could be, which is even more reason not to have all these "All state teams" Why not just have 1 period and be done with them because the more you have the more silly these awards seem to get.

I am admittedly prejudice on this but I am absolutely shocked that Sam Burchell is not mentioned in any of the state Polls at LB. I'm not saying he should have been 1st team, and I haven't seen all the players on the list. This I can tell you, talk to anyone of O-coordinators that played against CovCath and have them tell you what LB's they coached against that are better. My guess is that list is extremely short.

Burchell, Thacker and Nussbaum are the best LB's in N. Ky. IMO.

 

If Colin Justice had been healthy, he would have been in the mix.
