Wow this is very interesting, however I wish that they would have excused the 9th Region officials from this notice of instruction because the 9th Region was already traditionally calling games tight anyhow. Now they're just doing it even more so and making the game painful to watch, and the frustrated looks on so many players' faces when being charged with so much ticky-tacky stuff is painfully telling. It's ruining the flow of the 9th Region game, upsetting the players, fans, and making the officials take more heat than they ever had. I've never seen so many ridiculous calls being made and it's certainly taking a good portion of the fun and competition out of it all. We're still not doing ourselves any favors for when it's time to play on the big stage at Rupp in March for all the kids up this way will be so darned gun shy before they get there.

Was at Lewis County today. If those zebras are 16th region officials, I feel sorry for those guys. They were horrible. I wouldn't want them to manage a game of checkers. Extremely inconsistent. They could use a few lessons from the 8th/9th region guys. I may owe the local guys an apology (but I doubt it- lol). By my count the foul count was 34 to 12 against my team and we won by 20+. You know it's bad when the players on both teams are laughing at the same call.

I saw the first round of the S16 last year. It was so hard to watch.

I think officials need to tighten it up in order to get the game going properly.

I watched a game tonight which was survival of the fittest. There could have been a foul called every trip! Kids cannot even cut to get the ball because of the holding and body blocking. It is not fun to watch!!!!

The Walton-Verona/Anderson County game tonight was absolutely brutal. The entire night was a wrestling match.

So, is the "push" not working?

Just a question... Are they saying that they want basketball to be a sport where nobody touches each other and when they do, it is a foul?

Coaches have taught to hand check grab hip-check etc. and they call it defense. If you get beat ride them down the sideline. Foul, foul, foul, we are deeper than they are and the refs will get tired of calling them.

That is not basketball.

That has a lot to do w who is sent. Stop spreading the wealth and get the state's best down there, period. If they all come out of 2 regions, then so be it. The KHSAA has no one to blame but their antiquated ways.

Great post - I agree with you 100%.

I was at the Anderson Co and Walton game and I agree with weakside. There was a foul every trip. You can't run a cut without getting body blocked. I hated watching it.

No I believe the intend is to allow skilled players to play the game against other players of lesser ability, who because of less skill have been taught to grab, hold, push, hand check and to literally punish the more skilled players up and down the court and then to call it basketball!

I believe the intend is to bring the HS game back to skill vs. skill and not skill vs. bulk size of players who have no skills but just due to physical size and the stripes unwillingness in the past to call fouls, have taken the skill out of the game!

I believe the one quote was, it was more important to be in the weight room than on the practice court shooting and working on skill.

I don't think Julian Tackett knows much about basketball. But I'm not sure Roger Goodell knows much about football, so I suppose it doesn't really matter. I thought the officials in the Boyd County Roundball Classic this weekend did a great job. Personally the only gripe is all of the ticky tack junk that has been called out front that doesn't affect the player or the play and they blow the whistle. I don't know if that was the intention, I somehow don't think it was, but it does nothing but elongate the game, doesn't change a thing. Two hands on a player is a foul, IMO, when he/she is advancing the ball by dribble. The grabbing underneath doesn't seem to have changed much. And frankly, when the ball is about to be put in play either under the basket or side out or when a team is pressing in the full court, I see more grabbing before the ball is put in play than any other period in the game.

And in the long run my opinion doesn't amount to a hill of beans. I think it comes down to this, if the official knows what he's doing, he does a good job and keeps the game in control. There are those who do and those who don't and I don't see much change.
