Letting more teams compete for title while watering down the value of a state title. Printing titles doesn't increase the value.

I'm sure all the kids with titles since the expansion don't think their title is a watered down title nor do they care what you think about their title. They won it on the field with their blood, sweat and tears.

Also why Kentucky is never taken serious in football outside of T or Highlands.

So then all of you who think it's a great idea for 6 divisions in Football (me I could live with 3 and maybe 4) but then think Basketball, Baseball and the like should go to 6 too, so every Joey and Janie gets a trophy?

Everybody already makes the playoffs in those sports they just crown one true champion at the end. I'd bet more kids/teams/schools get trophies in those sports than in football.

So? Didn't realize that was the most important part of high school football in Kentucky. Proving ourselves to other states. I could not care less about what the other states think of us.

Ok, I have a couple things to say about that statement.

1 please show me how you come to that conclusion.

Last I checked I never once read an article, anywhere, saying no one takes ky football serious. Besides the fact that no one cares about any other state than their own anyway.

2 Who cares what anyone else thinks in the first place?

3 Are you so insecure that you need outsiders patting you on the back telling you your football is ok in their book?

4 Tell me right now, who won state titles in Texas last year. I mean they have to be taken serious all over the country right? So if that is the case people like you who are so concerned what others think should know who their champions are right off the top of your head. Go ahead, list them for me.

5 Please advice us all where everyone else in the country puts KY football on their lists. Are we taken more serious than Utah football, how about South Dakota football, what about Iowas football.

Making up things like you did does not make it facts.

And again I will say, Who Cares????

If you want to limit it then how about separating the classes into public schools and let them play for a title and the independents and privates who grab players from outside their districts like Highlands, CCH, Trinity etc. it's very easy to say there are too many classes when you root for a school that has a clear advantage over public schools that choose to simply get their athletes from inside their actual school districts than go outside their districts and get the best athletes they can lure to their school.

I believe part of the reason the KHSAA went to 6 classes is to try and satisfy the public school concerns about competing with private schools. I cannot understand their logic, however like any governing body - decisions made to try and help have unintended consequences - like games that are not competitive.

Just for reference and interest

Its interesting that some Ohio schools play KY schools to help improve their ratings and play off chances.

Well then great PP but then let football go to one division like Basketball and Baseball do.

You and some others seem to want your cake (no pun intended HHS fans) and eat it too.

Amen to that! Splitting the state into so many little segments dilutes the achievement of the kids who earn a championship and robs them of the experience of competing in meaningful, hard won battles. I don't have as much of a problem with the idea of giving more teams the chance to play in the playoffs within a given class. I just think the talented teams should be concentrated into fewer classes.

I am curious how Kentucky stacks up against other states regarding number of schools per division in football. I have already stated that I think 6 divisions is too many when there are only approx. 220 schools playing football. Kentucky averages 37 schools per division and Ohio averages 120...pretty big disparity although that does not mean Ohio is right and Ky is wrong. If anyone knows about other states, I would be curious how many they have per division.

These numbers do show that winning an Ohio state championship is a much tougher accomplishment than winning a Kentucky state championship...no big surprise there.

I clicked on this thread to read about Highlands vs Collins and all I get is the same old crap about watered down titles and everyone getting a trophy. This thread has been hijacked and some of the mods are the ones doing it.

I really like reading about Highlands. Love the history and would like to learn more about Collins.

Mayfieldsportsfan, I actually agree with you and I am a guilty party:)!!!! I also want to know more about Collins.

Everybody is predicting a blowout, but looking at Collins' record and scores, they can put some points on the board. This could turn out to be a real shootout. One of the things that would prevent that would be if Collins has a lot of two-way starters. Does anybody know how many (if any) they have? If they have a bunch, then the Birds will wear them down and dominate the second half - as they've done to most of their opponents this season.

In fairness, PP92 is the only mod in the thread, and he isn't the one who started that line of discussion.

Birdsfan I know it is just not what I wanted to read.
