As much as some may think that the" 6 divisions of football " are a joke, there are also teams in the State Championship games that have never been there. And teams that are new and up coming teams.

So for all those that don't like 6 divisions. There are more teams playing for a championship and more teams getting into playoffs, therefore generating more excitement at schools that may have never been in a playoff or experienced a State Championship game in football.

All this does is encourage more kids to come out for football and feel like they could possibly win an championship.

Each year the state football championships have a team or two that have not been there in awhile or not at all. That is a good thing in promoting football across the state of Kentucky.

Well said. I agree with you. That may be a first. :D :thumb:

The six division joke in Kentucky has robbed all Kentucky fans of a couple of terrific state championship games the past two years. Can you imagine how much fun it would have been the past two years if Bowling Green and HHS played each other in the state final? That would have been FUN for both schools! Thanks KHSAA for taking that away from us.

The goal of Kentucky football should be about encouraging football players across the state to strive for a chance to play in a state championship game, not about the best game for the causal fan to watch.

There are a ton of great athletes in the state of Kentucky that never get a chance to show their talents on a big scale "State Games". If broading the number of teams that can compete to play on that state stage of a championship means broadening the classes then so be it. Give more teams a chance. It is all about showcasing Kentucky's athletes whatever class they are in. It is not about a particular team.

Really? So you are upset that more schools have a shot at making history? You want BG and Highlands to play for the championship just so you can see them play, well how about Highlands and Trinity playing for the championship then?

Sorry but that is a poor excuse to have just to limit the teams that play for a title. If you want to see BG and HHs play so bad, you do know there is nothing stopping them from playing eachother in the regular season don't you?

You say all KY fans have been robbed of great games the last couple years, well I doubt that. I for one would rather see my team play BG in the finals this year than HHs play them. I would also venture to say that most fans would rather see their team play in the championship game and the only ones that would like to see HHS and BG play eachother would be HHS and BG fans, the majority of the rest of us would rather see their own team play in the finals.

The everybody gets a trophy mentality drives me nuts! It is not how it works in real life and not how it should work for high school football. I believe Ky should go back to the 4 class system. The lack of population in this state doesn't support a 6 class system in my opinion. There are only about 40 or so teams in each divison. There is no way you should win a state championship only having to be better than 40 teams.. Do people really think that kids are thinking that now there are 6 classes I might play football and have a better chance of winning a state championship? No..........they play football because they want to play football. It doesn't matter if there are 4 classes or 6 classes. I also think it has to do with more revenue for the KHSAA. JMO

Well said Raiderbird.

Let's look at the scores of these last two games in 4A. Birds blowout LC by 33 hanging 61 on them and Collins destroys their opponent by 50+ points. Collins lost to Boyle Co by 30. How bad must Warren East be?

For once, Whackem may be closer than anyone on his prediction.

I'm still trying to figure out why an extra week or two of football is a bad thing.

I think you're probably right about the real motivation for expanding to 6 classes... I think it is more about revenue generation and less about the "let everybody be a winner" mentality. I suspect that if the KHSAA felt that going to one class in football would make even more money, KY would probably have just one football class. I can't really fault the KHSAA trying to make money, especially in this economic climate.

Congrats to both Collins and Highlands for advancing to the state title game. Who is Collins' coach, and where was he at before coming to Collins?

So then all of you who think it's a great idea for 6 divisions in Football (me I could live with 3 and maybe 4) but then think Basketball, Baseball and the like should go to 6 too, so every Joey and Janie gets a trophy?

Since when does everybody get a trophy?

If that were the case I would agree with you, but that isn't the case. So there are 2 more champions than there would be in a 4 class system, who cares!?!?!?

If you want to limit it then how about separating the classes into public schools and let them play for a title and the independents and privates who grab players from outside their districts like Highlands, CCH, Trinity etc. it's very easy to say there are too many classes when you root for a school that has a clear advantage over public schools that choose to simply get their athletes from inside their actual school districts than go outside their districts and get the best athletes they can lure to their school.

If you truly have a problem with a 6 class system, then why wouldn't you have a problem with a 4 class system? Why not just limit it to a 1 class system so we can have 1 or 2 schools every year with a huge enrollment advantage win the title?

And you thinking it's no big deal to have to beat out 40 other schools? Really? Since when isn't being the best out of 40 isn't pretty impressive? I bet each year there are 39 other teams in each division that would think it was a big deal if they were the ones at the top at the end. Shoot, you act like 40 isn't a big number, how many NFL teams are there? Do you think the Super bowl champ is bummed each year because they didn't also include the CFL teams? Get real, if you really want more schools to compete against then get out of the state system and just play each year for the nations #1 ranking. No one is limiting Highlands from doing that.

6 classes, 4 classes, who cares.

AMEN!!!!!!!

i just don't understand the problem. Some act like it actually takes years off their lives if they have to be bothered with an additional game or something.

Congrats to both Collins and Highlands for advancing to the state title game. Who is Collins' coach, and where was he at before coming to Collins?

Who cares? I know its hard to put a lot of insight into this blowout but it doesnt matter if Bear Bryant comes back from the dead and coaches Collins. They are done.

Letting more teams compete for title while watering down the value of a state title. Printing titles doesn't increase the value.

Trust me, any school that wins a state title will not be bummed thinking they didn't deserve it.

4 titles or 6 titles, all are very deserving.
