Everybody is predicting a blowout, but looking at Collins' record and scores, they can put some points on the board. This could turn out to be a real shootout. One of the things that would prevent that would be if Collins has a lot of two-way starters. Does anybody know how many (if any) they have? If they have a bunch, then the Birds will wear them down and dominate the second half - as they've done to most of their opponents this season.

 

From what I've seen on other pages, and looking at their roster numbers, they have around 52 players including some frosh. That translates to probably quite a few playing both ways. With that being said, if in fact they do have a bunch playing both sides, then you know they won't be able to keep up with Highlands platoon system and constant fresh bodies. If anyone has more definite info or I am incorrect, please keep us informed. Will probably have more info after practice tomorrow.

I clicked on this thread to read about Highlands vs Collins and all I get is the same old crap about watered down titles and everyone getting a trophy. This thread has been hijacked and some of the mods are the ones doing it.

 

I really like reading about Highlands. Love the history and would like to learn more about Collins.

 

I agree with you. When I click on a thread I want to read about the topic in the title, not about things that have no relevance. I, too, want to read about Highlands vs. Collins. Whether there are too many classes or titles are watered down, there is nothing we can do about it before Friday.

Congrats to both Collins and Highlands for advancing to the state title game. Who is Collins' coach, and where was he at before coming to Collins?

 

Jerry Lucas is the head coach. He was the offensive coordinator for Shelby Co the 8-10 years before he took over at Collins when Shelby County split into 2 schools. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Scott Co under McKee and then the head coach at Western Hills for a few years. His defensive coordinator is Tom Becherer(head coach of Shelby Co for many years including 4A state championship in 1987 and 4A runner up in 1993).

 

If there is 1 thing that Jerry Lucas will be able to do then it will be find ways to put points on the board. Im not saying that Collins will win this game(I think Highlands wins), but I honestly feel that predicted scores like 77-0 and predictions of a running clock in the 2nd quarter are ridiculous.

 

Ill say that this game is competitive for a while before Collins starts to wear down.
