November 7, 201213 yr The country is not center-right. It is center-left. I, and many other Republicans, have been operating under this delusion. This country has people that reject authority and do not want to be told what to do by anyone. The old institutions are crumbling; many states are passing laws permitting gay marriage by comfortable majorities. States are doing outright legalization of marijuana. The evangelical church has essentially given way to Joel Osteen Ministries message that we can "have it all." Abortion is no longer taboo, it is merely an unfortunate side effect of promiscuity that can be dealt with medically and under the guise of the right to choose. People expect a social safety net if things go bad. Businesses expect a social safety net if things go bad. Failure is not considered a healthy option. Importantly, in my mind, marriage is no longer something that is necessary for women. While married women supported Romney 55%-45%, single women supported Obama by a whoppping 68%-32%. There are less women getting married, as trends go. You do that math. In addition, the country is no longer white. That is a foregone conclusion, and trending downward. Non-whites give birth to children at rates almost twice as high as whites. Again, this is the trend, you do that math. These statements of fact are made matter-of-factly by me, they are no longer and indictment. It is what it is. This election in my opinion marked the death knell for conservative white males. We are dinosaurs. 10 women won contested Senate-House seats for the Democrats last night. If the Republican Party wishes to survive, it must, right now, re-make itself the way the Democratic Party started to in 1992. Perhaps we should hire James Carville. I personally believe it is too late.
November 7, 201213 yr Here's my deep thought. 1992-2000-Democrat President 2000-2008-Republican President 2008-2016-Democrat President 2016-2024-Republican President Deep, huh? Profound. And probably a pattern until there's a legit third party.

November 7, 201213 yr Profound. And probably a pattern until there's a legit third party. Agreed. Side note: I love the word profound. That's awesome.

Truthfully, our current stability has been the exception to the rule. This president's re-election marked the first time in U.S. history we've had three consecutive two-term presidents.
November 7, 201213 yr You are guilty of what you are accusing MC of, in my opinion. Your world is the same as mine, except I refuse to view it through race/skin colored glasses. The only color that concerns me is green, green dollars, which as a small business owner/operator, has become more and more scarce the past four years. Everyone wants to talk about corporate profits, etc....But, the real engine that drives a free market economy is small business, and small business is getting the life choked out of it. Our President is very hostile to risk takers, producers, small business. So why keep blindly sticking up for big corporations? They're trying to put you out of business — the amount of money they poured into this election is a perfect example of it. The biggest snowjob in the world is the one that the GOP's funding mechanism has pulled on small business owners.

I personally believe it is too late. It's never too late. It's only too late if conservative white males walk around acting like it's too late and continue to stubbornly clutch to the belief that their ideology is the right ideology and everyone else be damned. It doesn't have to be that way.
November 7, 201213 yr I believe the word should be divisive, not diverse. No matter what group you claim to be a member of, shouldn't everyone support high moral standards and hard work? It seems as if there are too many people who wish to lower their standards for pleasure and even more who want someone else to work to pay taxes, so they can have something they are not willing to work for theirselves. What happened to just being an American? I'll answer it, it means fewer government handouts, hard work and moral standards based on faith, not feel good standards.
November 7, 201213 yr Why? Perhaps it is revelead by the President asking people in his final plee to vote for "Revenge". Perhaps the reason why he won is because it resonated and people want revenge. It is going to be interesting to see who the revenge is towards and what it looks like.

Keep believing that's the only source of morals and your beloved GOP will continue its free-fall to irrelevancy. I never understood why the Protestant Christian faith is trumpeted as the only real source of morals in this country. Especially when so many of those highfalutin moral crusaders seem to rarely walk their talk when it comes to their treatment of their fellow man.

I don't know anyone like you are describing. Everyone I know works hard and pays taxes and accepts that. I even know people that are for Obamacare and don't care about their rising healthcare costs because it helps out other people. I don't know anyone who wants someone who wants something they didn't work for. I think that person or people are being blown out of proportion big time by the right.
November 7, 201213 yr Here's another simple answer to Papa's questions...America always votes for the more personable candidate when it comes to the Presidency. Going to back to when debates were televised, have we ever gone the other way? Find out the answer to this question: Who would you rather sit down & have a beer with, and you will discover who is going to win the White House.
November 7, 201213 yr Who would you rather sit down & have a beer with, and you will discover who is going to win the White House. And I would add that this bodes well for Christie in 2016 if they ask, "Who would you rather have a beer & seven large pizzas with?"
