November 8, 201213 yr I can understand and appreciate your opposition on abortion. I don't know what a president Romney would have done to help in that area. What I do know is that with abortion being legal or not, simply "opposing" it is easy. Doing something to help women make better decisions is harder. Why do you "fear" same-sex marriage? As to the energy, do you not "fear" the pollution that oil, coal and to a lesser degree, natural gas, produces? As to the "Americans under fire" part, I don't think that any of us know enough about it to make a judgment call there. We don't know if a president Romney (or Bush or Clinton) would have done anything differently or been more successful. Perhaps, but Monday morning quarterbacking is very easy. What we do know is that there are dead Somalia pirates and a dead Osama bin Laden that President Obama did have a hand in, so your hyperbole rings somewhat hollow. On abortion, about the only thing political he could do is appoint pro-life justices and stand for life. Whereas Obama supports partial birth abortion and the killing of a baby if it somehow survived an abortion. The bible opposes the perversion of homosexuality and nature is against it as sex is for reproduction. We have come a long way to reduce pollution using carbon based fuels. Obama did not even make an effort to save our people and I believe I know enough to know he just let them die. Some questions for those who are so concerned about carbon fuels and do not want to expand their use. Do you own an electric car? Do you turn off the AC in the summer, as AC is a big consumer of energy? And where does that electricity come from for that so-called green electric car?
November 8, 201213 yr Whereas Obama supports partial birth abortion and the killing of a baby if it somehow survived an abortion. 100% false and pure myth. You have no idea as to why he voted against that.

You are correct about not knowing enough about Libya. The reason is this administration has taken the Patches O'Hullahan traing class and dodged, ducked, dived, dipped, and dodged the entire situation. When they have answered they have contradicted themselves so many times we've lost count. The have been painfully dishonest for nearly two months.

Hard to believe, but I've had sex without reproduction as a goal a whole bunch of times.

November 8, 201213 yr Author Is anybody buying the "the voter suppression initiatives got the Dems fired up even more to get out the vote" notion? Heard it a lot on the "liberal shows"; not at all on the conservative shows. At first I bought into it entirely (as it was something I was fired up about myself), but maybe the Obama campaign machine simply did an outstanding job getting their target groups out in large numbers. Thoughts? As long as we're discussing the reasons for the victory here.

However, Plouffe and his team simply outsmarted and outworked Romney's folks on the ground.

November 8, 201213 yr The country is not center-right. It is center-left. I, and many other Republicans, have been operating under this delusion. This country has people that reject authority and do not want to be told what to do by anyone. The old institutions are crumbling; many states are passing laws permitting gay marriage by comfortable majorities. States are doing outright legalization of marijuana. The evangelical church has essentially given way to Joel Osteen Ministries message that we can "have it all." Abortion is no longer taboo, it is merely an unfortunate side effect of promiscuity that can be dealt with medically and under the guise of the right to choose. People expect a social safety net if things go bad. Businesses expect a social safety net if things go bad. Failure is not considered a healthy option. Importantly, in my mind, marriage is no longer something that is necessary for women. While married women supported Romney 55%-45%, single women supported Obama by a whoppping 68%-32%. There are less women getting married, as trends go. You do that math. In addition, the country is no longer white. That is a foregone conclusion, and trending downward. Non-whites give birth to children at rates almost twice as high as whites. Again, this is the trend, you do that math. These statements of fact are made matter-of-factly by me, they are no longer and indictment. It is what it is. This election in my opinion marked the death knell for conservative white males. We are dinosaurs. 10 women won contested Senate-House seats for the Democrats last night. If the Republican Party wishes to survive, it must, right now, re-make itself the way the Democratic Party started to in 1992. Perhaps we should hire James Carville. I personally believe it is too late. Hearsay, There are days when I want to scream and say make it all stop, but a couple of generations ago, it would have been immigrants from southern Europe, including some of my ancestors that would have been the subject of the discussion. The country is changing. It always has and we are richer for it. There are things that I miss from the 50s when I was a kid. There are a lot more things that are well gone. I have very high hopes for the future. There are problems. We will fix some of them. Some of them will go away on their own. Some of will seem less important after time. Some of them we will learn to live with. It's all good. This is a curious debate to me, and may be worth its own thread. But, what does it mean to be conservative or liberal in the broader sense (I don't mean the specific policies endorsed by the respective parties)? Obviously, this country has changed quite a bit over its history and will continue to change, so what defines conservatism or liberalism? The speed of change? Or are their specific policies, goals each wish to see fulfilled?
November 8, 201213 yr And you do Clyde-so please infrom the less special among us..... Sure. The Illinois initiative that Rep Obama voted against included additional language that would have allowed abortion to be outlawed in Illinois. He voted against the overall bill because he is pro-choice. He said he would fully support a federal bill that left out the part that would undermine Roe v Wade. Hate him because he's pro-choice but at least do it with actual facts and not lies put out by Huckabee et al. By the way, it took me about 5 minutes to find the truth online. There was no conceivable way in my mind that a human being would vote to not allow a partially-born child to be saved. NONE. Therefore, I figured there had to be more to the story and there was.

The President is a staunch supporter of abortion.
