November 7, 201213 yr Maybe he based it on broader issues than just the military? I believe there are one or two other aspects of a president's job responsibilities. Like the economy?
November 7, 201213 yr ...Last night was a sobering night for me. I realized that white, Christians are a minority in the country and that really bothers me... Why does it bother you, particularly the "white" part?
November 7, 201213 yr Like the economy? Sure. Or social programs, immigration, foreign policy, etc. Remember that Romney was not liked by many in his own party early on and maybe right to the end. What has Powell done that would make you think he didn't truly like Obama better? He's always seemed like his own man to me.
November 7, 201213 yr Naive. Wrong. I respected him greatly when he was leading our Military and part of the Bush Whitehouse and I'm not going to change that thought now. I don't agree with him, but I'm cerrtain he now believes that Barrack Obama was the right choice. I will not change my opinion like the Liberals and Blacks that essentially called him an Uncle Tom when he was part of the Bush Whitehouse and now hold up his endorsement like a trophy.
November 7, 201213 yr Tell that to MC who is sad and having a hard time that his skin tone is becoming the new minority. Welcome to my world. You'll get used to it. You'll adapt. You are guilty of what you are accusing MC of, in my opinion. Your world is the same as mine, except I refuse to view it through race/skin colored glasses. The only color that concerns me is green, green dollars, which as a small business owner/operator, has become more and more scarce the past four years. Everyone wants to talk about corporate profits, etc....But, the real engine that drives a free market economy is small business, and small business is getting the life choked out of it. Our President is very hostile to risk takers, producers, small business.
November 7, 201213 yr Why does it bother you, particularly the "white" part? Perhaps because its simply Reverse Racism without being able to call it that or get protection from it.
November 7, 201213 yr All I'm saying is that the endorsement may have said as much about his dislike for Romney more than his like for Obama. I also think we give that guy way too much credit on too may fronts. I can't begin to question his military and/or foreign relations acumen, but no chance I think he's an expert on every aspect of the office of president. He even said as much when the R's wanted him to throw his hat in the ring in the not so distant past.
November 7, 201213 yr From a personal standpoint as a small business owner and all of the attachments contained within the "health care package" will likely force me to make some drastic changes in the very near future. Working on a razor thin margin like many other small business owners will no doubt have a drastic, if not catastrophic, effect on us tax-wise as well as the trickle down effect from the economy as a whole.

November 7, 201213 yr I'm a simple guy who always looks for the simple answer. I typically--not always--but typically leave the deep digging to others. For me, it's very simple to answer Papa's questions. For quite some time, I have likened this race to Bush vs. Kerry in 2004. Vulnerable, but personable incumbent facing an out-of-touch, bland, boring politician from Massachusetts. The incumbent is unpopular enough that basically half of the country doesn't want him for four more years. The challenger, however, is equally pathetic & just doesn't have the mojo to unseat the incumbent. And in both races, the result was the same--incumbent gets a second term by a thin margin--and it has as much to do with the challenger's weaknesses as it does the incumbent's. Unlike everyone else, I don't see this as an indictment on the GOP because the Dems bounced back after Bush tanked in his second term. While I sincerely hope the President doesn't repeat Bush's blunders, I anticipate he will & that the GOP will rebound & retake the White House in 2016.

Our President is very hostile to risk takers, producers, small business. I'm not accusing MC of anything. He stated how he felt and I responded. His words were plain as day. It's a whole new world being a minority. Trust me. Race has never been a crutch to me in any way but I'm not going to ignore it either.
November 7, 201213 yr Perhaps because its simply Reverse Racism without being able to call it that or get protection from it. No. He makes it sound like it is the worst thing in America to be white and in the minority. How is being in the minority racism NOW?

You're absolutely right. Until he separated himself from Bush that's exactly how he was treated by the black community. Once he endorsed Obama he was embraced. That is a fact. Herman Cain, Michael Steele, JC Watts and Condi get the same treatment. Which is why I am still awaiting the answer to my question. If Powell/Rice run on the republican ticket and get 93% of the black vote would it still be a problem? I'm thinking republicans would thump their chest proud of about how diverse they finally are.
