November 7, 201213 yr I think it's much more than the 47% comment or any other single moment. The hard truth is America as I know it is dead. Traditional values are no longer an important issue. The economy is no longer an issue, individual liberties are no longer an issue. All that matters is, what can you give me. Not what can I earn but what can you give me. Look Romney was correct, it was a poor political moment but he was correct. 47% of the population was going to vote for Obama no matter. Last night was a sobering night for me. I realized that white, Christians are a minority in the country and that really bothers me. I've heard many times that in my lifetime it would become illegal in this country for a pastor to preach against things like homosexuality. I never believed it but I do now. You are correct, but IMO not for the reasons you state. The truth is that America is always re-shifting itself. Your mantra above was probably uttered nearly 50 years ago when life-long Democrats walked out on their party because LBJ and Humphrey wanted Civil Rights Federalized. No doubt many felt exactly as you state you feel. (Now please hear me, I'm not comparing you to someone who many would call racists, but trying to make the point that this country has always been in flux) The truth is that somewhere a Federalist felt the same exact thing when Jefferson's ilk began to grow in number and political power. They probably fell into deep depression when the Jacksonian era began. I did not vote for Obama. But I do think the constant notion that "this is THE VOTE in our lifetimes" is the same slogan every four years. I heard it in 1980. No doubt others heard it in 1932 or 1860 or 1800. If I become a "minority" as you describe, so be it. My faith does not allow me to put tremendous trust or belief in man-made governments and even nations.
November 7, 201213 yr I do not fully discount it either, though it may not be phrased politically correct. I do not look at it as people are looking for ways to free-load there way through life (yes there are those people, but they are going to be there no matter who is in office), but rather the notion that the Government is in place to provide a wide array of services and those services you are entitled to. O'Reilly stated it as, "Ask not what you can do for your country, but what can your country do for you." I think the President would even agree. I reread my first post and Clyde is probably correct in that it's an overreaction to some degree. It's funny you mentioned O'Reilly's comments because it was at that moment that I realized just how much America has changed over the past 10 to 20 years. Let's make one thing clear, everyone who draws a government check isn't a free loader but there are plenty and the number is growing. Soon or later that has to stop.
November 7, 201213 yr I really feel both candidates wanted what is best for the country. Romney genuinely seems like a good guy that cares for this country . Agreed.
November 7, 201213 yr The Republican Party sucks. And I can't imagine that it will not suck in 4 years. If you are trying to win the evangelical vote and select a mormon, you're stupid. IMO it would a mistake to think that a far-right evangelical can win any future Presidential election if he/she is far-right in other areas. It simply isn't going to work. The Rs did not lose because they had a Mormon.

I can go with that especially the last sentence. I still have major concerns about the health of our nation, not just economically but in general.
November 7, 201213 yr Which leads me to an observation. If I'm running a campaign for either side in 2016 and I have half a billion dollars to play with; I put the lion's share in the battleground states. You have a billion dollars to play with, maybe more. Ann Compton threw out a number of 3 billion this morning!

You act like being a minority in this country is a bad thing. Keep plugging along, lil soldier. Maybe one day you'll get a President who kind of looks like you.
November 7, 201213 yr If you believe that those that voted for the President "want govt handout, don't want to work, want a free cell phone, are sheep, hate the country, hate Christians, etc" let me give you the equivalent whacked out post had the Gov won last night. Good lord. This country is going to hell (Mormons believe in Hell, right?). You must hate blacks and Mexicans and anyone who isn't rich and white. Are you that elitist? Don't you know the Civil War is over? You hate poor people, too. Who needs poor people? The rich carry this country and are the only ones of value. Get out of the country club occasionally and see what's going on in the real world. Heck, I bet it is going to be illegal to be brown anymore. Be ready to produce your W-2, folks. Only the rich will get any benefits. Asinine, right? Highly insulting, correct?

The Rs did not lose because they had a Mormon. I didn't say they did. My point is that when the candidates were in a row one of the main targets was the evangelical vote. Was it not? My point was to only solidify that the Republican party has no direction when it comes to a platform that they can sell, IMO.

As the government will continue to grow, and those on assistance continue to grow, how will the snowball ever not continue to not grow as it's rolling down hill? Are the number of people on foodstamps and govt assistance higher than the last four years considerably? Honest question?

Are the number of people on foodstamps and govt assistance higher than the last four years considerably? Honest question? You raise legit questions. My post was to show the oversimplification/stereotyping of the voters. It's 100% insulting. To your question, I think more are on food stamps. Memory tells me that part of that is due to a change made years ago to a particular program (can't remember the name) that moved people on it from one form of govt assistance to food stamps.
November 7, 201213 yr I don't think it's lumping all of the voters together at all. However, to discount a large population of voters (I don't know if it's 47% or not), isn't honest either, but if the democratic party continues to expand government and government assistance, that demographic of voters will only increase. And possibly to a point where no other candidate from another party who would like to decrease the size of government has a chance in the white house. And if that holds true, call it what you like, it by default becomes socialism.

November 7, 201213 yr Funny. You act like being a minority in this country is a bad thing. Keep plugging along, lil soldier. Maybe one day you'll get a President who kind of looks like you. PP, serious question. If 93% of the white population voted for Romney would there be cries of racism?
