Favorite KY Bourbons

Featured Replies

Tried it recently, not a fan.

Plan on pooring a few drinks tomorrow after having worked 5 straght 12 hour days, I think you've got me convinced to break the cycle and try some Benchmark.

Speaking of value bourbons, this is a great one.

What year was it? Definitely some differences in the years. I'm hoping to try a few more.

2003, I remember because I thought it was interesting that it was being made while I was finishing up my HS career.

???

Knob Creek Single Barrel. I bought a bottle tonight and I'm in love.

Dozens of offbeat, small-batch and single-barrel Bourbons. I'll have to stop by some of my places and post pictures. Since moving here, my standard gift to my dad for Christmas and Father's Day is an upscale bottle of something he would never buy otherwise, just so we can try something different. This past Christmas I got him a bottle of Johnny Drum Private Stock and bottles of Willett Single Barrel for a couple of friends.
Bought a bottle of Johnny Drum for my trip to the Smokies last week, it is now my favorite Bourbon!

Tell us about Johnny Drum, what does it taste like and/or compare to?

Pappy Van Winkle in a class by itself. Jefferson's Reserve Ky Bourbon although made in New York is excellent. Bourbon is best enjoyed neat by me.

The Drum Private Stock that I got my old man is very, very good, but it is also rocket fuel. Best to load it with ice and also some water to bring the proof down. I would liken it to Wild Turkey 101, but not quite as mashy.

Recently I've been drinking Ancient Ancient Age 10 year. Tonight I picked up a 750 of Elmer T. Lee and it is very good and even better with a cigar.

Jim pretty much nailed it, I'll add that it's on the hot, spicy side (not overly to me) with a hint of caramel. Those that like bourbon on the rocks will enjoy this, I, however just can't do that to good bourbon.

Anyone else tried Town Branch? I picked up a bottle a few weeks back, and I'm fairly impressed. It's on the sweet side of things, and has some fairly strong vanilla notes to it. For what it's worth, a kinda cool looking bottle too, I think.

It just was introduced in 2012, and also has had the Lexington distillery added to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. As I understand it, the owners of the Kentucky Ale brewery had been having so much success with their Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale that they realized instead of buying used bourbon barrels from distilleries to age their beer in, they should just go ahead and make their own bourbon, sell the bourbon, and then use the barrels themselves.
