February 22, 201313 yr I am too much of a wuss to know if anything is neat good. We probably need to have a BGP Bourbon tasting party so we can all figure it out. I'm in! Just say where and when
February 22, 201313 yr Given where I live, and the fact that I can get stuff in my local liquor stores that you guys will rarely if ever see at yours, I would offer up myself as a host. I might even be persuaded to BBQ for everyone. Now we're talking!
February 22, 201313 yr I'm currently drinking a Manhattan with Old Grand Dad 114 in it. It's dangerously potent, and pretty good.
February 22, 201313 yr What are you getting down there that NKY misses out on? (And I ask this is after moving out of state and living with bourbon selections that include only Jim Beam, Maker's, and Woodford, so maybe I miss the nuances now) Dozens of offbeat, small-batch and single-barrel Bourbons. I'll have to stop by some of my places and post pictures. Since moving here, my standard gift to my dad for Christmas and Father's Day is an upscale bottle of something he would never buy otherwise, just so we can try something different. This past Christmas I got him a bottle of Johnny Drum Private Stock and bottles of Willett Single Barrel for a couple of friends.

This past Christmas I got him a bottle of Johnny Drum Private Stock and bottles of Willett Single Barrel for a couple of friends. Bought my friend a bottle of Willett for his 21st birthday a couple years ago, mostly because the bottle was fancy. He looked at me in disgust and said that he hated bourbon, so for the next few weeks I was able to enjoy the bourbon I had purchased everytime I went over to his place.

February 22, 201313 yr I'm currently drinking a Manhattan with Old Grand Dad 114 in it. It's dangerously potent, and pretty good. I'm a semi-regular Manhattan drinker, myself. I tried something new this past Christmas and made myself some brandied cherries to use when I make my Manhattans instead of maraschino cherries, and they turned out awesome. Plus it adds just a little boost to the alcohol content.
February 22, 201313 yr I'm typically a Woodford guy, but have recently been drinking a new brand called Larceny. Has anyone else tried it? It is really good and has a nice mail in rebate also to sweetin deal.
February 22, 201313 yr Not familiar with Berkshire. Sounds evil. I do like Willett. If you can find it at the local stores, get a bottle of single barrel Willett and bring it over. I bought bottles for two folks for Christmas presents and never got a chance to sample it. I have had it before, mind you, but only in really small doses. It was around the $40 price point. I'm definitely curious. I'll keep my eye out.
February 22, 201313 yr Disregard everything I said about Berkshire. I looked it up, it's a blasphemous whisky made in MA labeled as bourbon.
February 22, 201313 yr Last night was a beer night. Tomorrow night's already a planned beer night. This thread is definitely making me sneak a bourbon night in there tonight. ... aaaaaand I just looked at the clock. Rats. It's still only 9:30?
February 22, 201313 yr Really? That seems like very poor inventory management. You are basically tying up cash in inventory for about five months. Is there a reason for this? Ie distilleriers only pour from barrels twice a year for some reason? This is when suppliers provide the best "deals" on the products.

Additionally, I bought a bottle of Larceny for one of the Xmas white elephant exchanges. I figured Larceny was the right gift since it was a game of theft.

The regular Willett has the pot still-shaped bottle. The Family Estate Single Barrel has a more traditional-looking bottle. I could only afford the 6yo one, but I've had the 21-year-old, and it's freakin' incredible.
