What you're both saying is that BG can thank Highlands for helping the Purples raise their level of play to now be considered one of the best programs from year to year in the state of KY.

 

 

They raised there play, for sure, but, I don't think Highlands had anything to do with it. They just made a comittment to the program from the little leagues on down and have great coaches at every level. They've always had some serious talent walking the halls. I think WCentral has also raised it's level, not to where BG is, but, still alot higher than in the past. Even WEast, Greenwood, SWarren are producing solid teams. I think, thanks to BGreen raising it's level, the surrounding teams have upped there games, as well. I also think the state championships being played in BGreen has also made the surrounding teams more aware of what they need to do to play with some of the best teams around the state.. IMO, the BGreen area is probably one of the strongest areas in the state for HS football, right there with the Louisville area..

While I do think BG was already one of the top programs I do think Highlands as well as Trinity and St. X have played a part directly or indirectly in BG raising their program up a notch. BG has played Trinity and St. X in the regular season yearly for quite some time now and of course they have played Highlands when the two were fortunate enough to meet in the state finals. I think those three schools have served as a model not just to BG but to the entire state as to how to raise the level of play of your football program.

Just hasn't been able to happen for whatever reason. Neither team is ducking the other. Just hasn't worked out. BG has played LexCath this year and last. BG played in the iHigh Football Frenzy this year and last. Played St. X this year and last. It's my understanding Highlands schedule is pretty much locked for the next two years. I'd love to see the game but it just hasn't been possible due to other schedule commitments.

 

Didn't Bg play T 2 or 3 years ago as well? Outcome was 14-12 T i think.

BG lost in the state finals three years in a row immediately before realignment. Only lost one of those games to Highlands. Guess there could have been two more BG/Highlands games had Highlands been able to at least make it to the state finals as well. The same sentiment applies to you guys.

I know you're being modest here, but, imo, Bgreen is at Highlands level on the field right now. Not saying they'd beat them everytime, but, they sure wouldn't lose to them everytime either. It would be an even matchup most of the time. And before someone from Highlands comes on here spouting off scores from past games or # of wins, titles, etc, let me stop you right here. I'm not saying the tradition level is the same, I'm just saying the level of play on the field is at least equal right now and has been for 2-3 years now. Will that continue, who knows, but, right now, thats the way it is..

 

As a Highlands fan I think that is a very fair post. A home and home series would be a ton of fun.

It does't matter if your team loses. Both of those years Highlands lost to the same teams Bowling Green did by less points. If there was a bracket with the Heat and the Lakers playing on one side, and the other side was the 2nd grade Johnson Elementary vs. the 1st grade Moyer Elementary.. The 2nd place team would be the Heat of the Lakers.

 

The year Highlands won they beat the team that knocked BG out. In 2008 Bowling Green lost to Owensboro, who lost to Christian Co., who lost to Highlands. In 2007 Highlands beat Bowling Green. In 2006 Highlands lost to Cov Cath by 10 and beat BG in the state championship Cov Cath won by 19. In 2005 Highlands lost to eventual champion Lex Cath by 17 who BG lost to by 18. The year before Highlands won the state championship. In the same year BG lost to Madisonville North Hopkins who lost to Hopkinsville who lost to Boyle Co. Who lost to Highlands.

 

So in the 3 years you metioned, Highlands won a state championship and lost to the same team BG lost to but by less points... How does that answer your question?

Exactly....In 2005 BG lost 13-7 to St X. That same year St X beat Highlands with a running clock.
