I will be interested to read the thoughts of the fact checkers. President Obama was a bit misleading in the "$5T tax cuts." From what I've read it's about $500M annually and he turned that into a 10-year calculation.

 

Secondly, Mr Romney seemed to match the President's idea that pre-existing conditions would always be covered. His aids have made it clear in the past there is an "if" there - if they have continuous coverage. That leaves out about 90M people. That wasn't what was implied.

 

I was surprised Obama did not call Romney on that. Obama should not play defense on Obamacare. He needs to talk about items like pre-existing conditions and remind people that you elected me the first time because health care reform is what you wanted. Obama did no linking between his promises in his first campaign and how he kept them while dealing with economic disaster. The more I think about it, the worse Obama's performance last night gets.

I had my mind set on watching the debate for about 20 minutes then falling asleep to it on the television. I could not take my eyes off of it. Nothing is ever brought to light within these debates that should sway a vote issue wise, but rather it gives a glimpse of a candidate's personality and demeanor in a challenging environment. Romney dominated and Obama sucked and I was shocked. It is as simple as that. When you have the MSNBC folks slapping their foreheads, that is not a good sign. David Axelrod this morning basically admitted that "Romney did well, but I knew he would because he prepared for this debate more than the invasion of Normandy. But it was just a 'performance'." Really, it is just a "performance"? Better answer as to why the President did not prepare as well as his counterpart.

After to sleeping on it here is my assessment.

 

Obama reminded me of a team with a Big lead at Halftime. He spent the debate trying not to lose instead of playing to win. (there is a diference) Mitt came out knowing he was the underdog and played lights out.

I thought he looked worn down at the DNC. Kind of makes you wonder I he wants to run or feels like he has to run. I normally don't watch the debates. I get lost in all of the lies and see no use when I know who I am voting for(2K13 needs my attention) but I'll be interested to see how Obama responds.

 

I honestly thought he was going to nod off at one point. No joking there at all. And he didn't seem tired in a bored kind of way, but tired in an I-really-need-some-sleep kind of way.

I thought Obama did his best when Health Care was the discussion, but I thought he only hit a double when he could have hit a grand slam. Lehrer had given him a time warning before he ever brought up what Mitt did in Massachusetts. I'm not an Obama/Obamacare fan (nor Romney, for that matter), but I was screaming (in my mind) for him to jump all over that, but he never really did. Squandered opportunity IMO.

I was about thirty minutes behind the real-time of the debate. Didn't really start looking at Twitter or anything until the latter portion of the debate. My assumption was that Romney had done very well & Obama was, at best, okay. When I saw Maher's tweet, I almost fell on the floor. I do agree with Axelrod that Romney has been gearing for this much longer than Obama has, and that was evident last night. I expect a much more prepared & on-the-offense President in round 2.
