October 4, 201213 yr What I take from the debate. Everyone expected Obama to crush Mitt. It didn't happen now everyone is on Mitt's jock. I find it funny that folks don't have high expectations of Mitt. Although I think we learned nothing from the debate from either one of them

October 4, 201213 yr Gov Romney said there are 5 studies that say his tax plan will not increase the deficit. Have we seen those on here? I haven't read anything that says there are enough "loopholes" that can be closed that will a)not increase taxes on the middle class while b)allowing for all tax rates to be reduced by 20%. BGC? You are the ace researcher on here. I'm looking for support of Mr Romney's contention that we can have our cake and eat it too. It will be great if that's true. I just haven't found any confirmation of it.
October 4, 201213 yr I will be interested to read the thoughts of the fact checkers. President Obama was a bit misleading in the "$5T tax cuts." From what I've read it's about $500M annually and he turned that into a 10-year calculation. Secondly, Mr Romney seemed to match the President's idea that pre-existing conditions would always be covered. His aids have made it clear in the past there is an "if" there - if they have continuous coverage. That leaves out about 90M people. That wasn't what was implied.

The Facts: The number Romney cited is in the ballpark. It’s close to the figure in a recent Kaiser Family Foundation survey that shows average premiums for a four-person family rose $2,370 between 2009 and 2012. The fact he didn’t mention is that the rate of increase has slowed under Obama. Kaiser calculated insurance rates over the past 10 years. They rose at an average annual rate of eight percent from 2002 through 2008, the year Obama was elected. Since he came to office, Kaiser said, the average annual rate has been 4.3 percent.

Romney has always shown that he does very well at debates, and besides that history has shown that the challenger in the first debate usually always wins. Yes and in a big way according to pre debate polling. Probably b/c Romney has had a bad few weeks leading up to it.

I thought he looked worn down at the DNC. Kind of makes you wonder I he wants to run or feels like he has to run. I normally don't watch the debates. I get lost in all of the lies and see no use when I know who I am voting for(2K13 needs my attention) but I'll be interested to see how Obama responds.
October 4, 201213 yr After to sleeping on it here is my assessment. Obama reminded me of a team with a Big lead at Halftime. He spent the debate trying not to lose instead of playing to win. (there is a diference) Mitt came out knowing he was the underdog and played lights out.

When it moves to social issues Romney may struggle. He cleans up on economic and business policies. Mainly just because he understands them.

It did look like he kept checking his phone beneath the podium lol. Romney looked solid. I said about half way through the debate that Obama didn't look anywhere near as polished as he did four years ago. But there is probably a big difference in the amount of time that he has to prepare now and four years ago. Some classic stuff on Twitter last night.
