October 4, 201213 yr Wonder why he wasn't corrected last night? Because Obama doesn't have a firm grasp. If he thought it was incorrect he would have called him out.
October 4, 201213 yr Romney called him on his because he was prepared. Obama didn't because he wasn't. Obama spewed talking points and told stories about his grandmother. So is there tax cuts for companies that move jobs over seas? I think it explains it in that link Clyde posted. It was very informative that even an economic novice such as myself could follow it.
October 4, 201213 yr I thought he was pretty factual ie no circles for the most part. He just didn't call the Gov on his incorrect statements. Did either? I think they were too busy keeping track of their own distortions to worry about the other's. Both should attend confession today even though neither is Catholic.
October 4, 201213 yr Did either? I think they were too busy keeping track of their own distortions to worry about the other's. Both should attend confession today even though neither is Catholic. Obviously, President Obama was writing them down.
October 4, 201213 yr From a "feel" and "look" perspective(as opposed to actual facts) I thought Gov Romney was in his element. He looked extremely comfortable. He made good eye contact. He seemed very well prepared (again, not with facts but with strategy) and it showed. President Obama's constant note taking was a bit much. Look the accuser in the eye. I think the President will a)be more aggressive and b)be more comfortable in the town hall setting in the next debate. Remember , if the first debate was key we would be talking about former President John Kerry.
October 4, 201213 yr Remember , if the first debate was key we would be talking about former President John Kerry. Very similar...last night's debate & the first Kerry/Bush debate. And while I agree with what you're saying here, that first debate got Kerry back into the race. I feel like last night will do the same for Romney. I don't think it'll be enough come Election Day, but he's back in the thick of things. Also agree on Obama. Very difficult to imagine him laying an egg for a second time. He's too sharp for that.
October 4, 201213 yr Remember , if the first debate was key we would be talking about former President John Kerry. Possibly, but last night comes nowhere close to Bush/Kerry round 1. Not even close. That was as bad (from the mismatch department) of a Presidential Debate performance I have personally watched.
October 4, 201213 yr Possibly, but last night comes nowhere close to Bush/Kerry round 1. Not even close. I'm not sure I agree with that. My memory tells me it was quite one-sided in 2004.
October 4, 201213 yr I'm not sure I agree with that. My memory tells me it was quite one-sided in 2004. I was thinking the public thought Kerry won by around 10-12%.
October 4, 201213 yr According to Business Week: Green Jobs The Claim: Romney, criticizing Obama’s focus on alternative energy, told the president that “$90 billion, and these businesses, many of them have gone out of business, I think about half of them of the ones that have been invested in, have gone out of business, a number of them happen to be owned by people who were contributors to your campaigns.” The Background: Romney is referring to the amount of money for clean energy in the 2009 economic stimulus, including a program that gave a $535 million loan guarantee to Solyndra LLC, the solar panel maker that later went bankrupt. The Facts: While Romney is right the stimulus provided $90 billion for clean-energy programs, he wrongly gives the impression all of it went directly to companies like Solyndra. In fact, the stimulus also retrofitted low-income homes to lower their energy costs, provided tax breaks to wind and solar producers, and funded research to reduce coal pollution. Of the $90 billion, $16 billion was spent on the loan-guarantee program that financed Solyndra. Three of the 28 companies that received guarantees later filed for bankruptcy, a slower rate of failure than anticipated by Congress, according to an analysis released in February. Investors in the companies that benefited include both Democratic and Republican donors. According to CBS News nearly a year ago and more have failed since: CBS News reviewed government loan guarantees and related funding that were given to a number of green energy companies. Its findings? "We identified 11 green energy companies beside Solyndra that, together, got billions of tax dollars then declared bankruptcy or are suffering other serious financial issues," CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson noted.
October 4, 201213 yr Kerry entered the first debate trailing Bush by about 7% points. Shortly after the debate, he takes a small lead for a few weeks. He ended up losing by 2.4%.
