As long as you agree that the NCAA is terribly and habitually inconsistent, we're on the same page. Unfortunately I think its more than just being "inconsistent" and leaning heavily towards "playing favorites." UNC and Duke are "golden boy" type programs for the NCAA, and I think the NCAA will go out of their way to avoid punishing them. That way the NCAA can put forward a good public face.

The problem is that this could happen to any coach at any school...If improper benefits were given, it's not because the school or coach sanctioned them. The ONLY way I see Duke being in trouble is if their were in fact imoproper benefits, they knew about it and did nothing.

Rose was ruled ineligible over allegedly cheating on a test that neither Memphis nor Calipari knew about. Memphis had to forfeit all wins from the season Rose played.

Coach K still has work to do to be looked at like Coach Cal. About all this does is further advance the perception that all coaches cheat. Even Coach K.

 

Most of us jump to the conclusion that that the coaches are cheating, when in reality they can't control what these kids do 24/7 or who they get involved with.

I don't think coaches can control the players off the court but I think they know more about the players off the court than they let on.

I'm no Duke fan but I hope he is not as guilty as he appears. The positive of this is maybe the NCAA will come to their senses and realize that their rules are stupid. These kids need to be compensated in some way.

 

Slowly reading through the thread, and maybe I'm taking this conversation somewhere it doesn't need to go. But how does a kid spending $97,000 on jewlry show the NCAA we need to compensate them? Please. Maybe if he got caught stealing diapers or formula for his kid.
