I've never said a thing on the matter. And for the record I believe he SHOULDN'T be penalized for something he didn't know about. This type of situation could happen to any coach in the NCAA. Is it the coaches fault? Of course not. That is where the blame would head though. Like RomanEmpire said, coaches cant watch their players 24/7. Therefore why should they or their school be punished?

I think all coaches would turn a blind eye to something like this. And maybe that's just me believing these programs run a tight ship. As union president at my factory I can find out a whole lot of info on 200+ union employees if needed. I have a hard time believing these programs can't keep tabs on 12 kids.

The thing that will bother me the most if Duke is penalized will be that UNC's football program was let off scot-free in proven academic fraud. That would be more shameful than it already is.

From what I have gathered this type of purchase is possible. He was supposed to pay it back in 15 days or return the jewelry I guess. The down payment covers liability. However, it's hard to believe that he didn't use his stature to make this kind of deal. If they have made these kinds of deals with other college students then they may be all right. I doubt any kids made this kind of deal so this reeks of 'improper benefits received' and that is not good at all.

If this story's subject would of been about Perry Stevenson, the world would of stopped revolving. Duke does appear (I could be wrong) to get hall passes for whatever reason and I'm not sure why, very perplexing. Reminds me of Bill Clinton. If George Bush would of done what Clinton did with Ms. Lewinsky, can you imagine the backlash? He would of been required to register as a sex offender for life. But Clinton is a hero and revered.
