Not to tired at all considering how much crap I took for suggesting that UK was making the wrong decision back when I mentioned it. People had no problem always bringing up when I was wrong about Carson Palmer, which I was wrong. So when I do make an argument that majority of people disagree with and end up discussing for awhile and I end up being right I will bring it up because people sure bring it up when I was wrong on Palmer. I really only bring up the arguments that were bigger and went on for awhile, when the majority of people disagreed. Since the Palmer thing was one of the first big things that I argued big time with, and ended up being wrong but yet people always brought it up still to this day.So I will bring up the other big argument I ended up being right about too. It goes both ways.Just like you can expect the same if the Ravens blitz more this year than last, because Im sure if I am wrong Spindoc won't let me hear the end of it haha:thumb:

Malzahn may be one to watch. He is itching to get back into the SEC but knew no head coaching experience would keep his name off of some lists. After a year or two at Ark State, he will be an SEC coach if he has any kind of success at Ark State.

 

There is a fine line in promoting coordinators to head coaches. It has seemed to work at Vanderbilt (Franklin), and Mississippi State (Mullen). The jury is still out on others such as Joker and Will Muschamp at Florida. Dooley was a head coach before taking the Tennessee job. No change from the latter Fulmer years. Gene Chizik had no success at Iowa State but has at Auburn.

 

Unless you have a top quality coach with head coaching experience lined up and ready to go, canning Joker won't change anything.

 

Franklin was the coach in waiting at Maryland and gave that up for experience at Vandy. Maryland knew what they had and now look at them.

Hire Bobby Petrino before another SEC schools does and pump some money into the football program facility wise and Ky can win.

Talk of hiring Petrino is beyond hilarious. His disdain for UK football was intense, genuine, and very public.

 

It doesn't matter because he will have a better job than Kentucky before the last bowl game is played this year; even if that weren't the case, I would be shocked if Petrino seriously considered UK.

Petrino isn't coming here. He once refferred to UK as a bunch of smurfs and Mitch would never go for someone like that.

Also, the sooner UK fires Joker, the sooner Strong makes room for him on his staff.

I will put a different take on this, and its from personal experience. I like Joker, as a face for UK football, and football around UK. We have a 7 on 7 tournament every year at UK, his staff of coaches run the event, like clock work, he and the staff take time out in between the games to visit with each coach there, the kids, shake hands and the like. Joker always ask what can UK do to help you guys.

 

That may sound silly, but to MS and HS kids and coaches, that means something. Charlie strong for example, was at U of L 7 on 7 when we where handing out the trophies, and we asked him to hand out the trophies and his response, "why bother, im not recruiting any of these kids" Ok yes coach their 7th and 8th graders and your not today, but we have 23 teams from KY here, you might be tomorrow. He just doesn't care.

 

UK will not win an SEC championship, that's a given, no one is disputing that. Can they be more competitive, yes they should be. Give Joker the funds and resources to hire better asst coaches, that yes may leave in 2 or 3 years for bigger things, but still that will help. I am with some on here about who else can we get, a bigger name certainly isn't coming here.

Those of you who want Petrino, your crazy. He's a snake and would leave at the first chance he gets. Those that think he wouldn't take the job are equally as crazy. He would take a job coaching womens underwater basket weaving if he thought it would get him a better offer. Petrino cares about one thing, Petrino. He's a worm and I wouldn't want him anywhere near UK.

 

As far as who should UK get, who knows. The fact is UK is what it is. They will never compete in the SEC year in year out no matter who is the coach. SEC caliber players that want to play in the SEC aren't coming to UK. UK will have to be happy getting the Bama/UGA/UF/LSU left overs. Their best option is to find the best COACH and assistants they can afford because the talent will never be on par with the rest of the SEC. They will have to live off of coaching and not pure talent.

I've said it before, it's comical to think any coach worth a darn would consider UK.

To compete you have to be able to recruit, some of these young assitants do much of the recruiting and are already in the Fla, Texas and other high schools you have to be able to recruit at. Another older retired guy that is only going to be there for a short time and has lost some of his competetive drive wont work, get a young ambitious guy that can RECRUIT!

I thought that was what Joker was, a recruiter. Being able to recruit does not necessarily make great head coaching material.

 

However, I do agree that they should go after a young up-and-comer assistant. Upgrade the facilities while he makes a name for himself, then sign him to a long term deal with an incredibly large buyout if he is successful. Even if he leaves for greener pastures, the next coach will have something to work with.

It is kind of funny hearing a UL fan say that he knows for sure that he hated UK by what Petrino had to say. It seems to me Petrino has done a great job at fooling UL fans, Atlanta Falcons owners, and then the Arkansas adminstration. He has shown he knows what to say to make people happy, and there is nothing better to talk about if your at UL than talking about how much he would hate UK. Just like it was easy for him to look players in the eyes, or adminstration and act like he would stay. Or like he did at Arkansas lie to his boss at first about the girl. So to act like how he acted at UL, and how he said he felt about UK while at UL means nothing.

 

If UK did honestly make a run at him, I would bet he definitely would listen. A chance to be back in KY and in the SEC would be hard for him not to look at. Especially since he knows its not like the next job he will land will be a huge big time gig. UK would be the perfect job for him to get his career back on track, and use UK as a stepping stone. So I think it is very realistic that he might come here, it just comes down to if UK would want to even try for him though.

Being a good assistant/recruiter doesn't always translate to being a good (or even decent) head coach.

Who's on the market that's a good hire? Should they fire Joker in season, or wait? If they fire him in season, who takes over as the interim?

 

Obviously, you are not happy with UK's direction, but realistically, what do you expect from the football program?

 

Perhaps you're new to the site, but threads tend to work better when those who start them offer some specifics and or solutions.
