Greg Schiano is a first year NFL head coach. He's got at least 2 years to succeed in Tampa before he gets fired, so that ain't happenin'.

 

I don't think Tee Martin has enough experience as a coach to become a head coach right now, and Bobby Petrino ain't the answer either.

I believe that Jeff Tedford is going to become available out at Cal. I know his record the last couple years doesn't merit much sympathy, but consider this: in the midst of a losing record, Tedford convinced the administration and investors to build a new stadium and facilities. Several years ago, Tedford was considered a California recruiting and offensive guru, and Cal had several years as a very good football program. I think the balloon has run out of air out there, but a fresh start for him at someplace like Kentucky might give both some revival.

Whats funny is I tried to say how UK was making a mistake by hiring him when Brooks retired, and I got tore up for it. The majority of the people on here were very happy and supportive of it. UK had a chance a blew it when Brooks retired. Now it would just be nice to get back to where he had them.

 

 

I was for Joker at first. I wanted him to succeed. Unfortunately he hasn't and I was wrong about Joker. It happens.

You might not like the guy but he can flat out recruit and coach..

 

Kind of like when a down UK roundball team was thinking about getting their program jumpstarted and the rumors about luring a controversial coach to Lexington started.

If things don't go well at Tampa Bay this year, Schiano could become available... NFL teams in theory have close to equal talent, improvement is expected immediately... Tee Martin is inexperienced but he's not far off from someone giving him a shot, especially after the experience he'll gain after this title run with USC...

One thing UK fans are going to have to realize is that whomever UK gets as their next coach, and it's inevitable they will soon be looking for a coach, is that the fans need to get warm and fuzzy with the fact that the next coach is most likely going to come with baggage or a label, such as "not proven", "washed up", "cheater", "poor morale's" and so on... fact is, UK is far from a destination job at this point and a coach that thinks he could do better than UK would be patient and do better, we need a coach that's looking for redemption or something to prove...

Petrino could have all the girlfriends on the side that he wants, and I couldn't care less. Petrino can coach and recruit his butt off.

 

My only worry with Petrino is would he stay? I personally think he would.

 

He might, but he will sure need bodyguards and a Kevlar vest when traveling or recruiting in the Ville.

They should have hired Mike Leach.

Malzahn may be one to watch. He is itching to get back into the SEC but knew no head coaching experience would keep his name off of some lists. After a year or two at Ark State, he will be an SEC coach if he has any kind of success at Ark State.

 

There is a fine line in promoting coordinators to head coaches. It has seemed to work at Vanderbilt (Franklin), and Mississippi State (Mullen). The jury is still out on others such as Joker and Will Muschamp at Florida. Dooley was a head coach before taking the Tennessee job. No change from the latter Fulmer years. Gene Chizik had no success at Iowa State but has at Auburn.

 

Unless you have a top quality coach with head coaching experience lined up and ready to go, canning Joker won't change anything.

Malzahn may be one to watch. He is itching to get back into the SEC but knew no head coaching experience would keep his name off of some lists.
