Who will replace Mike Glaser at X? Will Wolford??

I hope that they open a national search. I was asked about this opening by a coach in Texas. they would do well if they went national with this search. There are firms they could hire to help them manage it, even. I think they could make a huge splash with this hire if they managed it well.

I think there is a major issue there, my understanding is X doesn't want to pay the coach out of line with what they pay other employees at X.

I truly hope we are not still in that mode of thinking.

This is all in how you frame the idea of pay. I can guarantee that they can pay very competitively if they pay the coach consitent to what administrators are paid at St. X. Hire an AD/ Football coach (not sure what the AD situation is at St. X). This is what is done in Texas to increase they payscale for coaches. Make the coach an assistant principal; they have several at St. X. This will make the position competitive in terms of pay nationally while maintaining their pay standard.

If the goal is to hire a coach on the cheap, then beware. You tend to get what you pay for when you try to do things on the cheap in a school.

JMO.

What has Will Wolford been doing lately ? Would he have to teach ?

Stephan Lafors sounds like a great choice going outside of the X family but whats to keep him from moving on to college coaching sooner than later?

If a potential coach is wealthy already then maybe it is a good fit for X.

In Texas is allowable for the booster clubs to augment the coaches salary, that is how they get and keep quality coaches.

I totally agree with this in theory. It's absolutely the best way to handle the search. Cast a very wide net and dwindle the list from there. It's how Trinity landed Beatty from Missouri.

However, if X is putting serious limitations on salary, moving expenses, et al. then a national search is pointless because it will never get past the phone call stage.

You obviously know a lot more about the situation than I do, but I see this as a big opportunity for X to match what T did. I don't know, but doubt T broke the bank to hire Beatty, but they did a national search and found a way to hire the guy they wanted. Turns out they landed the best coach in the state.

If I'm in charge at X, I figure out exactly what I can spend (or package) then take my search national. Maybe I get lucky. If not, the local guys on the lists I've seen are still going to want the job.

Some folks at X (some of them denizens of this board) looked down their noses at Trinity when they hired from outside of Louisville. An acquaintance of mine who is a very vocal X alum told me to my face how Trinity had sold their soul to the devil and would do anything to win and that X would never do that. I really hope he is correct.

The easy way to solve this is to allow your head coaches to have summer camps on campus for grade school kids. A coach at a well known school with a strong football tradition should be able to get over a hundred kids a summer. The camps can supplement the coach's salary with no out of pocket expense for the school

Now teachers are getting into the summer camps offering courses to assist grade school kids with a subject they struggle with.

Could you please tell me what there is about going outside for a hire that is "selling your soul"? Any hire, whether a coach, a teacher, an administrator or a maintenance worker should be the best available. Anything less does a disservice to the kids.

Telling one of the best coaches in the nation he has to make any extra money running a summer camp will end the process with said coach right there...

I know he does the color on the radio broadcast for Indy Colts games and is beyond awful at it.

I do not think Bruner or Chitwood are even in discussions. St. X is going to pay commensurate with other teachers and administrtors. The Booster Club budget is controled by the administration, and all disbursements are run through the administration. Trust me, St. X, like all of us wants to win, but I will be extremely surprised, if not shocked, by any type of national search based on conversations at the school over the years.

What coaches are in the discussions and in your opinion who is at the top of the list?

You're preaching to the choir with me. I never understood the mindset that many at X held that Trinity had done something untoward by hiring an "outsider". I clearly remember leaving PJCS after the very first clash between Beatty and Glaser (Beatty won BTW) and being chastised by an acquaintance with X roots that Trinity would do anything to win.
