Who will replace Mike Glaser at X? Will Wolford??

I went to X more recently than others and I must say fb is important but not the upmost. X prides themselves on preparing the students for college and if athletic success and scholarships come with it then so be it. but X is academics first, athletics second. I didn't go to T but from the outside looking in and from talking to children who went there and shadowed there, its said to be the opposite. So i dont see X going all out to get a "Beatty". But i do see a nice hire to excel the program.

Are you nuts? Academics, faith and discipline are the foundations at Trinity. There is no difference between the schools in the emphasis on academics. Trinity educates a much wider spectrum of academic abilities, but all students receive a very demanding academic program.

Don't you go changin'. I don't know where we'd be without that Xaverian sense of superiority. It was very helpful to me as an eighth-grader when I was choosing whether to go to Trinity or X.

As i stated from the outside looking in and talking to students. Those students are football players(current) if it makes any difference. But maybe you went there i didn't so what do i know.

Telling one of the best coaches in the nation he has to make any extra money running a summer camp will end the process with said coach right there...

My guess is most coaches already know that is a common summer time activity. Heck, even on the college level, Tubby Smith ran Summer Camps for fans. While the goal of this was probably more PR than financial, I have to believe Tubby got paid for it and probably expected payment for it as a supplement to his salary. I think Cal and Pitino hold similar camps but do not know for sure.

It very well may be more important to THE STUDENTS (keep in mind, you are talkind to kids now, are you really going to put absolute faith in the opinions of teenagers?) but I can assure you to Rob Mullen (the president), to Dennis Lampley (the athletic director), to the entire School Board, to the entire Foundation Board to the entire Alumni Board, athletics are important but academics has a much higher priority.

If that really is what you see from the outside looking in, I think you need new glasses figuratively speaking.

Is this similar to what you meant when, in another thread, you quoted Coach Coverdale as referring to a "Xaverian menace"?

Seriously, though, I don't think you will ever see an athlete from T or X denied a college athletic scholarship because of academic problems.

The "Xaverian Menace" epithet was a tongue-in-cheek thing said in a Pride Week video during (I think) my senior year. It was montage of several different teachers and administrators all saying "Beat St. X" into the camera when, right in the middle of it, cut to a shot of Coach Coverdale at his desk reading a book, looking up only to say "Defeat the Xaverian Menace" then going back to his book. It was probably a throw-away line and I have no idea if he has said it since or would even remember he said it.

Regardless, I think the line is classic, even if tongue in cheek.

Totally agree. T serves a broader spectrum (doesn't make them better or worse), but they still excel academically. In fact, a few years ago they actually had more National Merit students than X, though typically X has more as they do turn away more challenged students than T. But make no mistake about it - my son (who chose T and earned a very nice academic scholarship and did not play football) would have gone to X as a second choice. To me they are 1 and 1A in the city of Louisville.

No doubt about that. It had me rolling the first time I saw it.

Based on what you are hearing, what time frame will the search take and when are they guessing they will start making offers? I have heard nothing so far.

Valid point. but if i talk to an X football player they recognize the importance X puts on academics. but different views different schools, doesn't really matter.

Agreed.
