How can you say that Vories is not the best point guard in the 9th?? He is AWESOME!!

I need to know what his flaws are because I don't see them....................

Congrates to both teams tonight!!! Both groups of kids played the game with alot of sporsmanship ................Thanks

Passer - I'd say he's more of a scoring guard than a PG. His ability to get to the hole is outstanding.

Todd had a great game but the first half was definitely his finest hour. Absolutely on FIRE from behind the arc. He was stroking it tonight. Great showing by both sections. This is the best regular season showing for the Colonels in a while it was LOUD.

Todd is a better all-around player than the Vories boy but its Vories' night to get the love. He carried that team offensively (somewhat offensive challenged team) and his team gets blown out without him on the floor. He stayed calm, made CCH defenders look bad in man-to-man D and hits a shot to win it. It was his night.

TJ's line:

21 pts( 5 3s)

9 boards(he's 5'10)

4 assists

3 steals

2 blocked shots

In re the physical nature of the game, Henry and I were just expecting it to be worse given all the talk about it on here. A couple of the "knockdowns" were either flops or some boys need to be eating more Wheaties in my opinion. I'd say there weren't more than 5 real physical incidents in my mind. If that's a lot, remember I played football not basketball, so my judgement of what is and is not physical play may not be in line with reality

Mke needs to take some valium before the game. He's a great guy and a great coach and I've known him and his family forever going back to good old St. Thomas days, but his constant "coaching" gets a bit old. I think he just likes to yell at the refs normally but when something really bad happens he has "no where to go" except across the line, resulting in the T.

83, before jv game ended but after they had locked the door and said they weren't allowing anyone else in, Drew Ellison's father (nice guy by the way) opened the door and said they would count the number of people leaving after the jv game and allow the same number of folks to go in. The reaction was for a lot of the kids outside to immediately start pushing forward and jockeying into position. Henry and I were towards the very front of the line(and would have gotten in before they closed the doors and stopped allowing people in but for the fact I was daydreaming as we drove over and missed the exit ramp). When Mr. Ellison (don't remember his first name, but he's a nice guy) opened the door to let 5 people in, Henry was one of the 5 but I was not due to some rather rambunctious young men wearing bed clothing as dresses cutting in front. Nonetheless, Mr. Ellison let me in anyway. Have I mentioned he's a nice guy? Thanks again.

We do have some studs on the jv team. Ryan Ball is the really muscular one. My son lifts a lot, but he says no one spends the time in the weight room that Ball does. He started for us in varsity football this year. Stine is another big boy on the jb bball team. He started for us in varsity fball. Hurtt is another one who is very well put together. Also started for us in varsity fball. They are all sophomores. Wise is the tall one (#44 I believe) with some muscles to go with the height. He's a junior and also started for us in varsity fball. I didn't get to see the jv game for reasons addressed in a prior post, but how did the aforementioned players do? I've always had the impression that they are pretty quick and move pretty well and that the muscle wasn't getting in the way of their bball game. Would others who saw them play last night agree?

LN, in re to comments on ML's coaching intensity....it ain't football my friend! There is no need to constantly be on the refs..but a dialogue has to be there or the opposing coach will gain an advantage. (especially if the other coach is a "ranter", too) And a lot of ranting is really directed at players effort (or lack there of). ML learned at the knee of Ken Shields, another master motivator (and ref baiter). And let's face it...some NKY refs carry over grudges and give some coaches more or less lattitude with sideline banter. A constant "rag" will earn a T...but "creative inquisitiveness" can often soften a ref and turn the tide of calls. But when a coaches player is percieved to be in physical peril due to inattentive refereeing...it's time for the "T" party to begin. You just hope it isn't a crucial point in the game.

as to how you "snuck" into the game....Henry probably "schmoozed" the door guy...cuz' you ain't gettin' in on good looks!

Big Question when they meet up is both Ben G, and Rice are hot heads. What happens there?

There is not a high school kid around that wants a piece of Ben G........The kid will throw down with a drop of a hat.......He is as crazy as his old man was... :fight: :fight:

I actually was quiet surprised how calm Willie was and told him after the game when I saw him, so Mike surely wasn't doing it to keep up with Willie. Mike's always been that way. I understand the reason he yells and did before your post, I just don't enjoy it and wanted to point out that sometimes it bites you in the butt. I did last night. He had been riding the refs unnecessarily strong from the tip off and he met the ref about mid court, followed him down the court really letting him have it. Mike hopefully would admit he deserved the T. He and others like him are lucky I'm not a bball ref, as they'd get T'd up so much their heads would spin. Just coach. I don't need to be told about every blown call I've made or missed and in return I won't yell at the coach the entire game telling them how stupid he was to be running that offensive set at the time or to be in that d at the time or why they didn't guard Vories differently at the end.

And again, I like Mike and think he is an absolutely fantastic coach and is an even better person, and have nothing but respect for him. I just don't like his constant riding of the refs and complaining about everything. And I don't like it from Pitino and other coaches that do the same thing. Its almost like they think they have to do it to be considered a good coach. Well the risk is if you take that approach the T will come and it happened last night.

HHS definitely had an argument on that, but on a scoreboard that does not do tenths of a second, it's very difficult to make an argument. I have always wished that Cov Cath would get a new scoreboard, and that would have helped tonight; however, the referees were correct in their decision to put more time on the clock (5 seconds total) after Vories hit the game-winner.

BTW, that was an excellent shot.

I wasn't there so I certainly don't want to argue anything, but the radio guys kept saying 3 dribbles were taken in 2 seconds.

For what it is worth, they also attributed the Tieney walk to condensation on the floor.

LN was really impressed with TJ and the Tierney kids. TJ was as hot as firecracker in the first half. We hope Tierney's hand didn't get reinjured last night. He is a competitor.

1. Vories is the most underrated player in the region.

I 100% agree with you. He does a lot for his team, and can score at will.

I arrived in the 4th quarter. From that point of time in the game HHS JV was down a couple of baskets . Zack Hurtt led the come back to tie the game in regulation. Scott Wise looked strong inside, and Ryan Ball was efficient at the point. Zack was the man (anybody have any stats) During the period i witnessed he had 2 3 pointers, a couple of steals that led to layups, and a few rebounds. This kind of play should earn the young man some meaningful Varsity minutes.

I'm not sure if any of the other CovCath fans have noticed this, but it is something that I have gathered from the past few games. Obviously they need to get some inside scoring. But it seems like when the big guys do get the ball, they are not in a position to score. Is it that A)the guards aren't getting them the ball at the right time and/or rotating it so that they can get position B)the big guys are doing a poor job of positioning or C)all of the plays are written up for TJ and Timmy? Would like some input....

There is not a high school kid around that wants a piece of Ben G........The kid will throw down with a drop of a hat.......He is as crazy as his old man was... :fight: :fight:

Not exactly something to be proud of. It's called an out of control temper.

Ben G was obviously the most physical. He overreacted to a foul by CCH and got T'd up. He plays hard and makes you earn everything. He comes close to "that line" and sometimes over it however he did keep his composure for most of the game.

I think he let the student section get in his head a bit tonight. However, like all of the Birds, the boy hit his free throws.

Actually, I don't think the student section rattled Ben one bit. If anything Ben feeds off that stuff. Probably the best thing the CCH student section could do for their team is not chant anything to Ben. :D
