Congrats to Highlands for a big victory tonignt, they are clearly the number two team in NKy. I have to admit though, after watching this game tonight , Homes should win the Ninth in a walkover.

 

IMHO I thought the back and fourth cheering between the two student sections in the third quarter was even better than the game itself. It was almost like both student section were the show and the game was just something going on at the time. :ylsuper: :thumb: Both student section were outstanding and if HHS says CovCath isn't its biggest rival, somebody isn't telling the truth. Congrats to both the CovCath and Highlands students section, they are the best in Kentucky at cheering and sportmanship..... As a fan it was great, and I woudl have paid even more than the five bucks to see this game. Too bad in many places in Kentucky, when you watch the highlights there are no students in the stands cheering. Twenty to thirthy years from now the students who attended this game will be telling their children who will be attending the HHS CovCath Basketball game in 2027 about how in the 2006 game HHS beat CovCath and how they cheered on their team.

 

Great game, great students, too bad that Holmes is the best basketball team of the Ninth region becuase they have no student section like the Birds and Colonels.....

HHS got good production from McGraw and Harvey (I think are the names) who I had never heard of before.

Vories is a force to be reckoned with, outside of Duran I'm not sure who can keep up with his first step and speed.

One of the downsides to an offense that relies on the outside shot is that sometimes bad shots are taken at bad times. I can think of 2 tonight. Fortunately, those are teaching situations and next time will be different.

 

Great night for b-ball regardless of who you root for. Add in an OT JV game and you'd be hard pressed to find a better $5 value.

 

You're absoutely right. One sticks out in my mind and cost the Colonels.

 

One thing that I noticed was how poory CCH played defense, particularly weak side / help side D. Early in the 1st quarter, Vories went right by his defender (Landrum?) and then went to the basket, while Bovard's back was turned. There were similar problems throughout the first half, and it hurt the Colonels.

 

Todd Jacobs is excellent, but somebody else needs to step up if CCH wants to play down in Rupp.

 

Vories is tough. I was impressed with him as a sophomore, and he played well again tonight. One big thing for this group of Bluebirds is that they have 2 full seasons of varsity basketball under their belts. That will help them throughout the season, and will continue to help them throughout the regional tournament.

 

Henry521 stated that the refs did a great job of keeping things in check (in terms of how physical things became), and, like HSSB, I would disagree with that. They did do an excellent job early on in the game, though.

 

Bottom line is that CCH missed some key free throws, and Highlands didn't miss many (MAYBE 1?). Throw in a call here & there, and HHS comes out with a great win.

 

Fun game to watch, although both teams have plenty of areas to improve upon. Excellent atmosphere, too.

I'd say only one ref had a tough night and I can think of a couple of calls that CCH got a break on. In no way was it as bad as last year's game.

The walk that was called on Timmy Tierney late in the game was a very poor call. He threw a pass (although it would have been intentional grounding in football...). Huge call in the game.

 

For the most part though, the officials did a pretty good job & even put the a few seconds back on the clock (which was the correct call, IMO).

I think ol' Willie was thinking 1972 USA-USSR when the saw the play where the ball was caught and then went OOB and only 2 seconds elapsed. My vision isn't as good as it used to be but it looked like he was talking to the timekeeper about "horses".

HHS definitely had an argument on that, but on a scoreboard that does not do tenths of a second, it's very difficult to make an argument. I have always wished that Cov Cath would get a new scoreboard, and that would have helped tonight; however, the referees were correct in their decision to put more time on the clock (5 seconds total) after Vories hit the game-winner.

 

BTW, that was an excellent shot.

Wow what a game. Vories is stud as I've said from watching him as a soph playing jv. Phenominal atmosphere by both cheering sections. TOGA NIGHT was a huge hit. Hard fought well earned win by the Birds. FTs were not missed by HHS all night and that won the game.

Vories is a stud......and was probably the best player on the court tonight.....but how come no one is talking abotu Todd...he had 1 more point than Vories....shot better from behind the ark and also pulled down 9 boards and atleast 4 assist....now thats a stud.....and TOGA night was classic with the Colonels losing the students still showed support till the end and still shows that they are the best student section around

Todd had a great game but the first half was definitely his finest hour. Absolutely on FIRE from behind the arc. He was stroking it tonight. Great showing by both sections. This is the best regular season showing for the Colonels in a while it was LOUD.

He has always had his share of success with the Colonels and the trend continues even though this team wears different colored uniforms.

You can question their strength of schedule all you want. I'm sure no Birds fan would disagree that their sos was weak to this point. This does not however take away from the talent of this team. This Highlands team is very dangerous regardless of who they play. Hats off to the Birds from this CCH fan.

1. Vories is the most underrated player in the region.

 

2. I think Tierney runs on Energizer.

 

3. Guidugli should skip the UC Football and go straight to WWE. He's a monster.

 

4. #44 on JV and he also dressed could be Guidugli's Tag Team Partner. #44 is a soph?

 

5. Todd is the best shooter I've seen in the state. How was Highlands leaving him open in the first half?

 

6. Michael Young is silencing his critics. He has played outstanding in his past 5 games. He just has to stay out of foul trouble. (and away from Guidugli, was he crazy)

 

7. Billy Schult has to shoot the ball. Go to the whole and go strong.

 

8. Nick Simpson, didn't have his best game. But this kid is going to be a big time player for the Bluebirds in 2007 and 2008.

 

9. Listermans technical foul might have cost the Colonels the game. What was he thinking? An argument was necessary, but not the reaction he gave.

NKY's post made me think of a few things that I wanted to say.

 

I would love to know what Listerman said to get the T. It hurt the Colonels, but he did the right thing IMO. Tierney was flat out pushed to the ground, and nothing was called. As a coach, you have a responsibility to stick up for your players and fight for them. While I don't agree with a lot of what Listerman does, I think he was right in doing so. Whether or not he deserved the T we'll never know (or at least I won't), but I respect what he did and he's not the type of coach to just fall off the deep end and get a T randomly.

 

Secondly, Michael Young did play very well. I meant to mention him earlier. He played with a passion, and played well; however, in 3 or so games this year I can only think of 1 post move that I have seen the Colonels make. Surely their inside game is better than that - why don't they EVER throw the ball inside and let a big man go to work, one-on-one? It seems like the only time a big guy gets the ball is when he gets a rebound or is just wide open under the basket.

Big Question when they meet up is both Ben G, and Rice are hot heads. What happens there?

How can you say that Vories is not the best point guard in the 9th?? He is AWESOME!!

I need to know what his flaws are because I don't see them....................
