Come on folks, you're being a little tough on G. Please quit acting like all the kids at CovCath are saints. I could start singling out some kids in your cheering section out, but won't. Every time people criticize your cheering section, all I hear in response is: they are only kids having fun, kids just being kids, etc and people should chill. Well, why doesn't the same hold true for G.? Oh yeah, it does.

You're right, but who is out here making Cov Cath kids out to be saints?

This type of stuff is expected when you have people making Ben G. out to be some type of street fighter, which he is not. The most surprising part is it's HHS fan(s).

Let's get back to the game so this one can stay open...

I agree with you Henry, but when people start talking about how this kid could throw down with anyone and this kid isnt affraid to fight anyone dont you think that they are the ones giving Ben a bad rep? I am a Cov Cath fan and i can tell you that im not a big fan of his, but the kid is one heck of an athlete, it is obvious he cares about his sports and training for those sports, so why ruin what he has worked so hard for by saying that he could "throw down" with the best of them?? Maybe he can do that but why bring it up if you dont want the kids reputation talked about.

About the cheering sections,... both were outstanding i thought,... Some very good cheers, some less classy than others, but again its all in fun. I thought it was a great game could have gone either way. I am NOT going to say that the better team one b/c to be honest with u i dont know if there was a "better" team playing tonight. Both teams played great, coulda gone either way,... went in favor of highlands. Hope these 2 match up again in the post season for another exciting one. Good luck boys. :thumb:

Great post.... :ylsuper: :ylsuper:

Henry is 100% correct. I happen to be on the All Saints Committee at CCH and in my weekly report Saints and Sinners, there was 1 in the Sinners column. Due to privacy laws, though, no names are revealed - just zip codes.

Could that sinner be a bird that flew into the CovCath student section prior to the start of the Varsity game? I do truly pray that big bird forgives that bird, for it didn't know what it was doing. It was just one of his poor dumb creatures from his bird kingdom that lost his way trying to impress the other young birds and wound up mading a fool of itself. I am sure that it will never happen again because I am sure that the poor bird just might get into trouble when Monday comes and big bird has a real stong talk with him. :D

In all seriousness, obviously all schools have some kids that are immature and do silly things. No newsflash there. However, when you're from a family that prides itself on being tough and you wear it with a badge of honor and overreact in certain situations, you're going to be criticized. Is it an indictment on HHS? Heck no.

For the record, outside of the overreaction that drew the T, I didn't have a problem with Ben's hard fouls or aggressive play. Yes, I think the boys missed an obvious forearm to the chest by Ben that ultimately resulted in a T on Mike L. That's on the ref and not on Ben. If its a foul, ring him up. He only gets 5 regardless of how hard they are.

Hopefully, with maturity comes proper perspective for the young man (and yes, Henry, for all CCH boys as well ;) ).

IMHO, Young should not have gotten that technical for the altercation with Ben G. Sure, Young got in his face but Ben was so hotheaded after the foul that no matter where Young had stood up Ben would have been right up in his face. From what I saw Young did not do anything but stand up after he had fallen down. But I could be wrong because of the angle i was watching the game from. Also, what was the technical called on Coach Listerman for? All that I saw was the Highlands fans going crazy saying technical and the next thing I know the Highlands player is shooting free throws.

This is what I saw from my view. I was sitting behind CCH's bench. 2nd rown. On the Young and Guidugli incident I first couldn't believe that Young had the gutz to get back up in Guidugli's face. But there were no punches. No pushing. No words really said. I asked Michael after the game what was said he said nobody really said a thing at all. Michael said they were just starring at each other. But at that point in the game it was starting to get out of control and the refs didn't want anything to happen from there on.

As a ref they knew the game would be wild and physical and to add to that that Guidugli could explode at any moment so as soon as something happened it was there job to make sure nothing happened again. And it to their credit it really did work in the second half.

As for Listerman. He is crazy. From the moment of tip off he was in a refs ear all night. He didn't give the refs any slack. From where I was sitting the the incident where he was T'd up went like this. Guidugli pushed Tierney and Tierney went to the floor hard. No foul was called and probably there should have been one called. Then, I saw the ref running up the sideline close to CCH bench and as he passed it, Listerman got up and accidentally bumped him, while yelling at him. It wasn't on purpose and the ref might have over reacted but like I said Listerman had been on him all night already. Listerman was in his coaching box also. The ref possibly was running out of bounds as he came down the court or even right on the sideline. I really don't think the bump was intentional, but I think all 3 Zebras had had enough.

(Tim told me he thought it defenitely was foul on Guidugli, but after the play was over Tim just tapped him on the butt and told "hit me harder next time" and they both laughed. Then he saw coach had got a Technical.)

I am sure that it was something Coach L. said but it could have been the fact that he was out of the box which the refs could call all night long. Coach L lives on the floor trying to work the refs. Everyone knows that.

Can you imagine the HHS practices. You have Ben G, Tanner, the Eaton kid matching up against those JV football studs..... you cant tell me there arent some sore muscles after those sessions. I saw the HHS JV on Sat night against NCC... they didnt look good at all. They had a lot of turnovers, not much offense, it is very clear that they have a long way to go and that Football is the main sport for most of those guys. HHS may be hurting next year but should be okay by the time the Sophs are seniors with Simpson and MCgraw starting this year and improving. My thoughts are as long as you have experience at the guard position, the Power guys can simply bang and do their job setting screens. There will be some nasty screens being set at Highlands over the next couple years. The ball kid literally looks like he can rip your head off with his hands...... he has bigger tri cep muscles than most adults I know.

Highlands JV is pretty good though, with their only losses I think coming to Elder, Dixie, and NCC. Also they got a really good win at CCH, which as everyone knows, is tough to do on any level.

I thought St. Henry beat HHS JV, but I could be wrong.

Actually Listerman was well within the coaches' box when he got the T. The T was a good decision, both by the official & by Listerman. As a coach, Listerman has the responsbility to defend his players & I wouldn't want to play for a coach who would not do it. That's all Listerman was doing, there. Guidugli flat out pushed TT over, and everybody but the officials saw it. Fortunately for CCH, the 3 by Jacobs counted, or that play would have been much, much bigger.

I am so tired of hearing about this call not being made. The refs can't be everywhere. I saw several plays on both ends that should have been called and weren't. I thought the refs did a great job on Friday night. Now for Saturday night at NCC-HHS they were terrible. They didn't take control like the guys did at CCH.

Get over it- you lost!
