June 14, 201214 yr Four days at a cabin near Gatlinburg in July with some friends from college. We are going there as well. My daughter has her national dance competition there.
June 14, 201214 yr This summer we will be touring the Midwest. Summerfesting in Milwaukee, lake fun at in-laws in Monticello, IN, and maybe a few days in Indy for Children's Museum and basketball. When do or did the festivals start in Milwaukee? I know they have one for a whole bunch of ethnicities. Never been myself.
June 14, 201214 yr Same place we always go. Dewees Island, SC right by Isle of Palms and not too far from Folley, Clyde. It pays to have wealthy relatives. This is a ferry based island. First three days are awesome. The next 4 can make you go stir crazy. Dewees Island - Charleston, SC
June 14, 201214 yr My wife, mother, 3-year old daughter and I are starting in Ocean City, Maryland, driving up the East Coast and stopping at several beaches along the way. We are also doing some driving through New England and possibly a stop in Niagara Falls on the way home. Anyone have any insight as to where to stop on the coast? I have already been told to stop in Rehoboth Beach, MD and the National Park Beaches in Delaware as well as Atlantic City. Anything else?

Good call on Summerfest! I went up several years back, caught a Brewers game, visited the Plank Road Brewery, and the Lakefront Beer Brewery all on a 5 day weekend. (I'd STRONGLY suggest the Lakefront Brewery tour if your ever in Milwaukee.) One of the best "short trips" I've ever taken.

June 14, 201214 yr You didn't tell me you were married to the BEST WOMAN EVER! SF is awesome but pack like it's going to be cold. Get out to the different sections of the city. Eat in Chinatown and North Beach (Italian section). I got a good one!
June 14, 201214 yr Ride the trollies......Go to North Beach and walk around and find a hole in the wall Italian restaurant............Take the Alcatraz tour.........Rent a car and go to see the Redwoods at Muir Woods......See the sea lions at pier 39.......get a sundae at Girardelli's...... If you haven't found a hotel yet....The Westin St Francis is right on the trolley line and right across the street from Cheesecake Factory (on top of Macy's), it has great history....or try the Hotel Monaco.... We're at the Hilton on Union Square. Doing the Alcatraz tour, and planning on Muir Woods. Got tickets for the Reds on Thursday (ballpark tour that morning), and Sat. Doing the Alcatraz tour at night on Friday. Probably doing Muir Woods Friday morning. I believe, from what I've seen, we'll be taking the trolley darn near everywhere from Union Square.
June 14, 201214 yr Did you tour Harley Davidson? Nope. Honestly, all of my crowd is sorta motorcycle ignorant, so we didn't even know Harley-Davidson was headquartered in Milwaukee until we got there and just kinda found out. The Summerfest headliner music acts each night, the Brewers game, and the Miller Brewery were all the trip priorities when we headed up there, and we literally just happened upon the Lakefront Brewery, so of course we took the tour (how can you just pass by a brewery without at least trying to stick your head in for a look-see). Add to that the fact that the whole crowd was made up of mid-20's guys combined with the amount of beer we consumed at the aforementioned locales, and we weren't waking up until noon or 1:00pm. Thereby, we had very little time for any additional sightseeing
June 14, 201214 yr When do or did the festivals start in Milwaukee? I know they have one for a whole bunch of ethnicities. Never been myself. The big one, Summerfest is a huge lakefront music festival spanning end of June to July 8. The Summerfest grounds are also used all the other summer weekends for Irish Fest, German Fest, Italian Fest, Polish Fest, Fiesta Mexicana, etc.
June 14, 201214 yr Anyone looking for something different, fairly close and economical, shoot me a PM. So if we went to Rockmom's French Lick, IN. Resort, what kind of entertainment/attractions do you have for ages 17 to 4?
June 14, 201214 yr For those that want a nice summer beach vacation but aren't into a 12 hour drive consider the west coast of Michigan. We vaca'd jut north of Holland a few years ago in a cool lakehouse and it was outstanding. Hot days. Cool nights. I have really fond memories of a Traverse City vacation with kids ages 3 and 1. We were in a hotel right on the lake with a sandy beachfront, and it really gave you that Florida beach feel. The area was full of surprises: beautiful parks and playgrounds, lighthouses, wine tours, boat tours, lakefront zoo, etc. I remember that I never felt like a tourist, because the people were so friendly, treated you like you were their neighbor.
