June 18, 201214 yr If your not an avid golfer, fisherman, etc., is a trip to Myrtle Beach worth it? Are the beaches nice and clean and white, say like they are in Sarasota,Siesta Key? Don't want no more experiences with dirty beaches like are on the ocean side of Florida, love the Gulf side. Myrtle Beach is nothing like going to the Gulf, it is more of a golfer/fisherman type beach area like you said...Both are very nice beaches but they are very different as well...If you want a more tropical feel with much less to do except relax at the beach your better off going to Destin/Ft Walton Beach...Destin/Ft Walton is only at the most another 2 Hours from Cincinnati...Here are a couple pictures for comparison, I have been to both and from my experience this is pretty accurate as far as the differences in the beaches...Myrtle Beach was a lot of fun we used to go there every year and I am not knocking it in any way, but the water was more murky, there wasn't white sand and the water was a little colder and ever since we went to the Ft Walton Beach area we haven't been to any other beach... Myrtle Beach Ft Walton Beach
June 18, 201214 yr Is Myrtle Beach similar to Ft. Lauderdale or Daytona(which are the two 'Ocean' beaches that have been to)? Never been to either. But the pictures posted above are an accurate representation of the difference in "look". I don't golf but the fishing part shouldn't be a sticking point as I've found good fishing in the gulf area.
June 18, 201214 yr Lots of activities to do in Myrtle. Beaches are prettier in the golf. More laid back it seems. We no longer go to Myrtle Beach, traffic is a turn off. Love Hilton Head and a small island called Fripp Island. Basically they are all good, just depends on what you like to do.
June 18, 201214 yr As previously mentioned, I've got a "vacation" set for July 5th through the 11th. Mrs. is going to Orlando to stay with the grandkids while the son and his wife go on vacation in New England. I'm taking care of Pop and putting new floors in all of the bedrooms while Mrs. S is away. Fun stuff.

I've been to Virginia Beach, Cocoa Beach, Miami, Key West, Panama City, Galveston, and South Padre Island, and none of those beaches even came close to Siesta Key. Best beach I have been to by far.
June 19, 201214 yr I've been to Virginia Beach, Cocoa Beach, Miami, Key West, Panama City, Galveston, and South Padre Island, and none of those beaches even came close to Siesta Key. Best beach I have been to by far.Lived there for two years, best friend's parents managed/lived at a condo/hotel on the beach, Lido Beach was a few miles away and was a nude beach at the time, don't know if still is. Was spoiled by the white sands and clear blue water then and would never settle for anything less for a vacation.
June 20, 201214 yr Pushing my vacation to Destin Fla back a few weeks due to my stepson's knothole team playing in the City Tournament. Luckily its a buddy's beach house and he doesnt rent it out much and is very flexible. I am itching though to get to the beach.
June 20, 201214 yr Author Ate at a good pizza place there. Vinnie Van Go Go. Went there yesterday to eat and they were closed. They had a sign on the front door that said "Closed. Gone fishing for the day." Thought that was kind of funny. There was plenty of options down there though. Cool part of town.
June 20, 201214 yr Hubby and I are headed to Vegas this weekend for a mini getaway. Trying to talk him into staying an extra day so we can go see the Dukes of September show (Donald Fagen, Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs) at the Hard Rock Hotel.
June 21, 201214 yr We are leaving Monday for what should be a dandy vacation. We are flying into Prague and staying in the historic section for 3 nights, then will take train to Trier, Germany for just one night. Then, it's a short train ride to Luxembourg for 2 nights. After that, we are off to Normandy (by train) for a few days (been wanting to see the D-Day beaches for a LONG time). After Normandy, we're off to Bruges, Belgium for 5 days. For those of you who know me and my love of beer, you'll notice that we'll be hitting some top-notch beer producing countries.:thumb: I've been to Germany a few times and tend to favor German dunkels and schwarz biers. However, I also love Belgian beers, and am looking forward to my first trip into Belgium.

June 21, 201214 yr I know the drive from Northern Ky. to Gatlinsburgh/Pigeon Forge isn't far, but can you fly into or close to there at a resonable price from Cinci or Lexington?
June 21, 201214 yr I know the drive from Northern Ky. to Gatlinsburgh/Pigeon Forge isn't far, but can you fly into or close to there at a resonable price from Cinci or Lexington? You could probably fly Southwest from Louisville to Nashville for under $500 but then you would have about a 3 hour drive from Nashville to Gatlinburg......I think you could probably drive there and back for around $100 or a little more...
