To me, other than going west (Montana, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, New Mexico and Arizona) you just can't beat Hilton Head, SC. Driving distance, somewhat affordable and you can bike everywhere.
June 14, 201214 yr Heading to my buddy's house in Destin FL week of July 4th to stay for a week with the family. He has a sweet place down there, 11 rooms and 5 bedrooms in a gated community close to the beach. Cheap week as he is only charging me $400 to stay. I have never been so I am looking forward to checking out the sights, I hear Baytown Wharf is a hot spot and there is a ton to do down there.

I will be curious to hear how crowded it is that week plus how the traffic is. I haven't been in years but there was only one two-lane road and it struggled to handle the traffic. Great beaches.

June 14, 201214 yr I have been to HH 3 times and always enjoyed my stay. We stayed at a beachfront condo each time and really enjoyed Coligny Square and some of the restaurants. I miss Fitzgeralds as I hear they are no longer in business but were a great steakhouse. Its a bit of a tourist trap but you will enjoy your stay and really get some nice relaxation. Let's hear it? Not that it isn't far from Hilton Head, of course. Only know because once we dump the kids off at college this August, me and the ball-n-chain are heading there. Went to Charleston about 6 years ago for a 14U baseball tournament and absolutely loved the place. Can't wait to get back.
