You are exactly right about HC not wanting to play CCH starting off, and who would? Along the lines of size, I think that may be a good point because what would CCH have to gain from a win over a 2A school? I think if HC can continue to succeed over the next year or two this game will become a reality.

 

They have a ton to gain, see post #28.

I think it makes sense for CCH to schedule HC. Put it this way, CCH should definitely schedule HC before they get another GCL team or T and/or X.

 

And that arrogant attitude has hurt the football program. You can only take so many beatings from so many teams you have no business playing.

 

I agree with this. I know Covington Catholic has a terrific program with a great history, but in my opinion, they are closer to Holy Cross than they are Elder/X, etc. And that isn't meant as a knock.

I'm not sure I agree with this. I would draw those lines like this:

 

Holy Cross ............................................................ CCH .....................Elder/X

 

If CCH had played Holy Cross last year, CCH would have won by at least 5 TD's. And that was versus Holy Cross' best team ever. Holy Cross needs to put up two more years like the last two before I would consider playing them if I were CCH. And I would rather play Campbell County than Holy Cross this coming season because Campbell County will be a tougher opponent.

Why do you think so? I don't follow Conner but it seems to me they ended the year well and apparently have some talent back, including a big time QB. On the other hand CCH has some big shoes to fill on the O-line from last year along with some skill positions. I would think it sets up for a competitive game at this point.

I like the schedule. Ryle should be a quality scrimmage. Dixie, Boone and Campbell are big schools and should usually be good games on paper. LaSalle is probably the best GCL match up for Covington Catholic. I always liked to have one maybe two teams on the schedule from the GCL as they are bench mark games. You know how good you really are after playing, which is huge. I'll agree that these games have bitten CCH in the backside before though. Anyways, Beechwood is a big rivalry still. There's nothing we can do about the week district, so oh well. Oh yeah, the game on September 21 looks intriguing, I'll be interested to see who wins.

 

 

I don't see any reason why CovCath wouldn't want to play Holy Cross. I mean, NewCath used to be a staple on CCH's schedule. I'd say as of today, NewCath and Holy Cross are probably on the same level. I think the players would get more excited about playing Holy Cross than many would think.

I think this is way closer to the truth than any predictions of Cov Cath "crushing" Conner.

If they can continue near the level that they finished last year at, then other people in NKY will finally give them the credit they deserve. They just can't mix an anything near what the 2nd half against Beechwood was like last year.

If it wasn't arrogance it was stupidity or a combination of both.

 

I am not saying I would replace anyone this year, what I am saying is when they have an opening on the schedule in the future they need to work hard at scheduling HC and whatever they do they should not add another big school that is going to pound them.

 

To the first graph: Or perhaps necessity? Like I said, NKY teams haven't always been lining up to play CovCath.

 

On the second graph: We're likely not as far off on scheduling as you may think. But, HC is possibily becoming a viable option for CovCath in this department for the first time. It's not like CovCath had been avoiding them. Kinda goes back to my first point in this post.
