Really? I wonder how many former Spartans are playing for SK? This just boils down to schools from affluent communities poaching kids from not so affluent communities. I'd like to see how successful Beechwood would be if coaches from their development program took kids to other high schools!

 

There are Spartans players playing for other schools besides Beechwood. There are kids from Ft. Mitchell that went to Beechwood through 8th grade playing at other schools. This isn't some middle ages fiefdom where anyone who lives in your borders is required to go to your school. Kids and their parents make decisions about what is best for them. If they think Simon Kenton is best, or Beechwood, or they want a Catholic high school education ... whatever is best for them, they have the right to do it. You don't hear Beechwood whining because some player from the Spartans went to Highlands or Cov Cath or Dixie or any other school. That is the decision every kid and his parents have to make. Best of luck to them that their decision works out well.

For the love of God, please. What did Simon Kenton do to develop the Brights or Stringer? They were both taught the game by the coaches at South Kenotn. Marksberry could not be more disengaged with the South Kenton, or the two middle school programs for that matter. It's a shame, and there is no one to point a finger at but himself. He is a pathetic ambassador for that football program, does nothing to make the young kids want to play at SK. They let the Bright boys walk without even a fight, not so much as a phone call. There is a reason the schools like Highlands , BW, and Cov Cath are so successful, and it has nothing to do with recruiting. It has to do with having one program from the time kids first lace up the cleats until they graduate, and the sense of pride and ownership that instills. SK got very lucky to have a couple great classes back to back, and when you have an SEC running back and a college QB on your roster for a few years, I think I could win with that. A program is built by your so called "development", not just a few teams here or there. Once again SK is mediocre at best, and will stay that way for a while. I have no dog in this fight, but good for Ethan for making a choice he thought was the best, both academically and athletically. Need to let it go, it's his decision.

 

Hey Imhisdad, you are a tad uninformed here. The Brights left over a basketball issue because one of them was injured and was not guaranteed a roster spot on the FRESHMAN TEAM! When my kid was told he would not be playing basketball, he decided on his own to SWIM instead.

 

Mr. Bright was a coach on the Lions which is a Simon Kenton feeder program. For him to do what he did was a profound act of selfishness, disloyalty and out right betrayal. This will be settled on the field, and the score we will be counting is not the one on the scoreboard!

Never let facts get in the way of a good story, you sound like a jilted lover and your version of the story is completely wrong. Score not counted on the scoreboard? Is that a threat to a kid? No wonder the good kids are fleeing Independence at rapid pace. Again, yes Mr. Bright was a coach at SK, a program that Marksberry pretended didn't exist. How is that disloyal on his part?

Great point, having your opponenet start at their 20 on 95% of the kickoffs is huge, not sure anyone can fill the void left by Joey. A healthy Gage Erdman takes the heat off Nussbaum, and Mitch Thomas gives them another burner in the backfield, what remains to be seen is what is going to happen with the QB, not sure anyone has emerged as a clear cut favorite to lead the Tigers.

 

How is Erdman? Didn't he get injured late in the season last year? He is a very nice player.

He actually came back and played at the end of last season. He ran the sprints in track this spring. No problems. Fully recovered. Gage should have a big season this year.

LOL. I think he will be ok. BW coming off an undefeated Frosh season, and had an OL that was fantastic. Now I hear there are several transfers in, most of them linemen, that will be incoming Frosh. I am sure after a rebuilding BW team takes D6 SK to the woodshed again in September, we will hear some more "if we played them again, we would pound them" stories coming out of Independence.

I think the Tigers "great run" is over. Truly I think it ended with Coach Yeagle. Beechwood is always solid in football, but Mayfield coming down, has been the kryptonite to the Tigers.

If we are defining dynasty as winning state titles, that ended on Yeagle's watch, not after it. Yeagle's last 6 seasons = one state title. The 90's were an amazing run and that truly was a dynasty. But that was a long time ago and it ended well before Coach Rash took over. The fact is, Beechwood has been better in Rash's first 6 seasons than they were in the 6 seasons just before Rash under Yeagle.
