No mention about Louisville Holy Cross they have been contenders the last few years up until they met Mayfield in the playoff's past two years. I thought I read early on they had some good kids back. I think Class A will be a tough class this year to pick a clear cut number one until playoffs. For now until Hazard is knocked off will place them number 1 followed by Mayfield. The rest to be seen as season progresses. JD

They did beat Russellville big last year in the playoffs, however Holy Cross lost like 16 seniors to graduation and Russellville only had four seniors. Russellville worries me, they may still be a year away but they will make a splash soon. Not sure what to make of HC or Frankfort yet

As to the outlook in 1A, it appears to be more open than it has been in several years. Each of the past 4 or 5 years, there was a team entering the season that was considered an overwhelming favorite. I don't think there is a team that looks that dominating as we enter the season. Hazard should be #1 until they lose or prove otherwise on the field. This year is going to be one of those season where everyone will be scoreboard watching more than usual to see how the various teams are developing and who to watch out for.

I personally think Hazard doesn't get the credit they deserve, they have been at the top of the game for a few years now, yes mayfield handled them easily a couple of years ago, but we weren't better than them as much as the scoreboard showed.

Both of you make valid points. I don't think a team that lost everything should be #1 just because they won it the previous season. If Beechwood had won the title last year, I wouldn't put them at #1 this year because they lost almost every starter. However, my understanding is Hazard has a good group returning and because that returning group won the title last year, I think they should enter the season at #1.

Mayfield played as the #1 team all season and went into the State Title game on a 29 game winning streak. A very good Hazard team and a flurry of injuries ended that. If Mayfield stays healthy all season I like their chances more than anybody's.

Can't wait to watch Beechwood scrimmage Conner August 10th I hope Beechwood beats them again.

Would not be surprised to see a fair amount of reps in the Wildcat with Nussbaum under center. There is no question that they are loaded in the backfield. Until a newer O line develops these backs might be called on more than usual to block for each other out of varying sets.

I believe it will be Cameron Lane....As he was getting the majority of the snaps before the dead period. Gage and Max will be in the backfield....Don't believe they will show any "Wildcat" early on.
