11th Region Week 4 Review

Recommended Posts

Another week has come and gone in the 11th Region. As has been all year long the top team remains the same and the rest of the region is starting to come together. We are in the middle of the holiday tournament season which means some interesting match ups and statement games for some of the programs in the area. Lets get to it!

Team Rankings

1. Scott County (10-0) - The Cardinals continue to roll through the 2018 section of their schedule. This week they picked up 2 blowout victories over Fern Creek and Lafayette, two perinel power programs in our state. Michael Moreno, Diablo Stewart and Bryce Long continue to lead the Cardinals. Up next Scott County heads to Myrtle Beach for the Beach Ball Classic where they face off with hosts Socastee, South Carolina to open tournament play.

2. Frankfort (8-2) - The Panthers continue to play great basketball early in the season. This past week they picked up 3 wins over Western, Boone County, and Boyle County. Against Western senior guard Juanya Frank picked up his 1,000th career point. This week the Panthers head to Montgomery County for the Gateway Holiday Classic and face off with Mason County in the opening round.

3. Lexington Christian Academy (7-3) - The Eagles headed to the King of the Bluegrass this past week. In their first age they knocked off University Heights convincingly with Kyle Rode pouring in 27 points and 14 rebounds and out performing KyKy Tandy. Next up they ran into a buzz saw in Trinity and fell hard. Next up they dropped a game to a good Madisonville team where they only managed to score 35 points. This week the Eagles host the Central Bank Classic.

4. Henry Clay (9-2) - The Blue Devils had a great week winning the Henry Clay Invitational Tournament with wins over Great Falls, South Carolina, PRP, and Butler. Marques Warrick was named MVP of the tournament and continues to prove to be one of the nest players in not only the region but the state. This week the Blue Devils head to Ashland for the AIT where they matchup with Christian Academy of Louisville in the first round.

5. Woodford County (7-2) - The Yellow Jackets finished the week 1-1 with a big win over Ashland and a close lose at home to St. Xavier. Brandon Cromwell and Anthony Tabor continue to lead the Yellow Jackets. This week they head to Daytona, Florida for the Father Lopez Holiday Tournament where they face off with Gateway, Florida out of Kissimmee.

6. Tates Creek (8-3) - Winners of 5 in a row the Commodores might be the hottest team in the region and continue to climb our weekly rankings. This past week Tates Creek traveled to the Smoky Mountain Classic and won the white bracket with wins over North Laurel, North Forsyth, Georgia, and Corbin. The Commodores have an extended break and play no games this week.

7. Madison Central (5-5) - The Indians also traveled to the King of the Bluegrass in Louisville this past week and came away with a 1-2 record. They dropped their opening game to Walton Verona, beat Spencer County, and lost to Evanston Township out of Illinois to end the week. Up next the Indians travel to the Lake Cumberland Holiday Classic and face off with Newport Central Catholic in the opening round.

8. Lafayette (5-6) - The Generals finished the week 2-1 and runners up in the Clash of the Titans Holiday Classic in Harrodsburg picking up wins over Somerset and Shelby County and falling to Lincoln County in the championship game. This week Lafayette heads to Louisville for the City of Middletown Holiday Classic at Eastern. They face off with DuPont Manual in the opening round.

9. Lexington Catholic (3-8) - The Knights have hit a skid and have lost 6 in a row including 3 this past week in Las Vegas as part of the Tarkanian Classic. Luckily for the Knights they return home to host the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic where they face off with Bellevue to open tournament play.

10. Paul Laurence Dunbar (4-5) - The Bulldogs finished the week 1-2 as part of the Henry Clay Invitational Tournament. They dropped close games to Butler and West Jessamine and picked up a win over Seven Hills, Ohio. This week PLD travels to Louisville for the City of Middletown Holiday Classic at Eastern where they face off with Central in the opening round.

11. Franklin County (6-5) - The Flyers finished the week 2-1 with 2 wins in the Huck Turner Holiday Classic at Harrison County over Harrison County and Holmes. They dropped a game early in the week to Eastern on the road in a close one. Up next the Flyers head to Lexington Catholic for the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and face off with Hancock County in the opening round. An interesting matchup waits in the second round between Franklin County and Lexington Catholic if both teams win their opening games.

12. Frederick Douglass (3-5) - The Broncos only played one game this past week and fell to St. Xavier in a close competitive game. This week the Broncos head to Lexington Catholic for the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and face off with University Heights in the opening round.

13. Madison Southern (7-5) - The Eagles finished the week 3-1 and 3rd Place in the M&W Shootout picking up wins over Spring Hill, Tennessee, Southwestern, and Huntington St. Joes Prep and dropping a game to Pulaski County. This week the Eagles head to Campbellsville for the Campbellsville Holiday Classic and face off with Marion County in the opening round.

14. Bryan Station (1-9) - The Defenders continue to struggle but a small tiny bright spot picking up their first win of the season over St. Henry this week as part of the Phillip Wood Classic at Pendleton County. They dropped games to Cooper and Pendleton County in blowout fashion earlier in the week. This week they head to Lexington Catholic for the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic and face off with Deltona, Florida in the opening round.

15. Model (6-5) - The Patriots finished the week 2-1 in the Jim Lankster Holiday Classic at Sayre with wins over Sayre and Belfry and a loss to Harlan. This week Model heads to Beth Haven for the Beth Haven Holiday Classic and face off with Brown in the opening round.

16. Sayre (2-7) - The Spartans hosted the Jim Lankster Holiday Classic this past week and finished 1-2. With losses to Harlan and Model and a win over Belfry. This week the Spartans head to Scottsville for the South Central Bank Classic and play Allen County-Scottsville in the opening round.

17. Berea (6-4) - The Pirates finished the week 2-1 and 3rd Place in the Berea All A Holiday Classic. They picked up wins over Owen County and Cumberland County and dropped a close one to Owsley County. This week the Pirates head to Wise, Virginia for the Grand Home Furnishings Holiday Classic.

18. Western Hills (1-6) - The Wolverines lost their only game of the week to Danville and continue to struggle. They don’t have any holiday tournaments listed on their schedule and don’t show another game until January 4th. A solid strategy to improve your team! Something needs to change.

Bryan Station surely has to be the best one win team in the state They were a fun team to watch at Pendleton County last week. Their team speed is comparable to most anybody and superior to many. Youth and inexperience seem to be the issue with their poor start.
