1. Knott County Central (16-5): The Patriots remain #1 this week as they went 3-1 this past week. They got things started with a 61-49 road win over district foe, Letcher County Central. The Patriots made their way to Richmond to EKU’s McBrayer Arena for the state all “a” state tournament. The Patriots opened up the tournament in a big way as they would cruise by Owensboro Catholic 46-33. The Patriots would advance to the quarter-finals where they would face and beat Beechwood, seemingly with ease, 51-33. The Patriots would go on to the semi-finals where they would fall to eventual all a tournament champion, Lexington Christian 54-44.

The Patriots have 4 big games this week, Tuesday night home vs Powell County, Wednesday night home vs Cordia, Friday at home vs Perry Central and Saturday at home vs Wolfe County.

2. Estill County (14-6): The Engineers picked up two big district wins last week, defeating Lee County 93-43 (without starter Caleb Bonny), Powell County 64-55. Estill County would also get past Fleming County seemingly with no trouble 65-37. The big story for Estill County for the week, was defeating #11 state-ranked, Pulaski County 81-67. Game was back and forth until the final 8 seconds where Pulaski County would melt down, including 3 technical fouls called on the Maroons. Kevin Richardson would make 7/8 FT’s to give Estill the 81-67 win. That was Estill’s first win against a state ranked team since the Engineers defeated Scott County years ago.

The Engineers will be on the road this week, at Buckhorn on Tuesday and Powell County on Friday.

3. Perry County Central (13-5): Perry Central picked up back to back wins last week on back to back days, defeating Wolfe County, seemingly with ease, 85-66 and Powell County 68-60.

Perry Central will travel to Knott Central on Friday for a big region showdown and Letcher Central on Saturday.

4. Cordia (12-10): Cordia split their two games last week, defeating June Buchanan, 70-45 but falling to Franklin County 67-55 over at GRC.

Cordia will have two huge games this week, at Knott Central on Wednesday and on Saturday, they will, again, travel to Central KY, this time to Lafayette, where they will face West Jessamine in the Jock Sutherland Classic.

5. Leslie County (11-8): The Eagles slipped last week, losing both games, a 77-68 loss to Barbourville and a 67-59 loss to district foe, Hazard.

The Eagles will just have one game this week, Saturday, at Buckhorn.

6. Powell County (12-8): Powell County went .500 last week, defeating Lee County 78-34 and Menifee County 81-73 but falling to Estill County 64-55 and Perry Central 68-60.

Powell County will be on the road Tuesday night at Knott Central and at home on Friday hosting Estill County.

7. Wolfe County (11-11): The Wolves seem to have things going in the right away for them at the right time. The Wolves had struggled all season but have won 3 straight including a 30 point road win at district foe, Breathitt County 78-48. Wolfe County defeated Riverside Christian 67-31 and Owsley County 82-61.

Wolfe County will be at home this week, hosting Jackson City on Tuesday, on the road at Hazard on Thursday and at Knott Central on Saturday.

8. Hazard (8-7): Hazard finally picked up back to back wins this past week, defeating Leslie County 67-59 and Sheldon Clark 83-54.

Can the Bulldogs keep this momentum up this week, when they travel to Barbourville on Monday, host Wolfe County on Thursday and Friday and vs Lee County on Saturday at Buckhorn?

9. Breathitt County (8-14): Despite going.500 last week, the Bobcats are still struggling. Defeating Lee County and Buckhorn are wins but that’s it, when you lose by 30 to your district foe and then lose 12 on your own home court to a small Lexington school like Sayre, that’s a totally different thing and collapse.

Can Breathitt re-group this week when they host Newport on Friday and vs Barbourville on Saturday at Buckhorn?

10. Letcher County Central (6-16): The Cougars were another team that went .500 last week, picking up wins over Jenkins 77-46 and Buckhorn 57-53 but falling to Knott Central 61-48 and Eastside VA 61-55.

The Cougars will be on the road Tuesday at Harlan Ind, and Wednesday at June Buchanan and will be home on Saturday hosting Perry Central.

11. Buckhorn (4-16): Buckhorn has now lost 6 straight games.

12. Owsley County (9-10): The Owls have had a great seasons for a school of their size but still haven’t been able to win the big games like they once did.

13. Jackson City (5-17): The Tigers have lost 4 straight but theirs good news on the horizon for the young Tigers, they have a couple winnable games coming up within the next few weeks.

14. June Buchanan (5-14): The Crusaders losing streak has reached 4 straight games as well. Much like Jackson City, the Crusaders have a few winnable games coming up on the schedule over the next few weeks as well.

15. Riverside Christian (2-16): The Rams losing skid has reached 136 straight games and the sad part is, they may not win another game this season.

16. Lee County (0-21): The bobcats are still getting destroyed in all of their games. One would have never thought they’d see any Lee County team struggle this badly since all the dominant years they had under coach Danny Wright.
