1.Owensboro Red Devils (15-5) – SAME – On Tuesday Owensboro grinded out a 70-63 win over Madisonville. The Devils put 5 players in double figure, led by Lance Lewis's 13. Gardener, Hogg and Tinsley chipped in 11 and Deonte Douglas added 10. On Friday, OHS came up short vs #1 in Indiana class 3A Evansville Bosse. The Bulldogs poured it in from long range and the Devils just could not keep pace. The Devils get back home this Tuesday vs Breck. On Friday, they have a 9th district showdown at Apollo.

2.Daviess County Panthers (14-8) – SAME – The Panthers split a pair of games this past week. They opened with an impressive 76-55 win over Henderson. The Colonels could not keep pace with the uptempo style of the Panthers. Blake Bosewell led all scorers with 23. Seth Fenwick continued his breakout campaign with 19. On Saturday, the Panthers fell to Central Hardin 66-63. They trailed most of the game but made a nice run to cut the Bruin lead to 3, before coming up short. They travel to Muhlenberg County tomorrow for a tough test before returning home this weekend for more regional action against Catholic Friday and Meade County on Saturday.

3.Owensboro Catholic Aces (13-7) - SAME – The Aces fell in the first round of the All-A state tournament this week. Knott Central held Catholic to only 33 points in the loss. Ty Vincent rolled his ankle in the game and will miss some time. The Aces will miss his spark off the bench. The Aces have 3 tough road games this week, starting tomorrow at Madisonville. Friday they travel to Daviess County in a big game for 9th district seeding. Saturday, they are at Breck County.

4.Apollo Eagles (8-10) – UP 2 – The Eagles continue to trend upward this week, as they knocked off Muhlenberg County in overtime, 62-60. Zach Greer hit a put back at the buzzer to lift Apollo to the win. The Eagles got 23 from Nathan Boyle and 22 from Alex Gray. Tonight, they host the Breck Tigers in a makeup game before traveling to Ohio County tomorrow night. Friday, they travel to Owensboro.

5.Breckenridge County Tigers (12-6) – UP 2 – The Tigers continue to sport one of the best records in the region, as they just keep finding ways to win. They went 2-0 last week, starting with a 49-39 win over Grayson County. Kobe Poole scored 20. Friday, they got a huge district win down in Meade County, 67-61. Kobe Poole had 25, while Tanner Whitworth had 15. Whitworth has played limited minutes this season, but if they can get him going, lookout. We'll know more after this week, as the Tigers travel to Apollo and OHS tonight and tomorrow before returning home for games against Ohio County and Owensboro Catholic on Friday and Saturday.

6.Muhlenberg County Mustangs (9-11) – DOWN 1 – The Mustangs went 0-2 this week, but they were in prime position to get 2 big wins. On Tuesday, they lost to Bowling Green 55-50. The Stangs led the Purples 50-49 with under 2 minutes but could not hang on. On the road against Apollo on Friday, Muhlenberg led late but missed key free throws that allowed Apollo to steal one. Keep in mind this is a very young team, and they continue to improve as the season rolls along. For my money, no coach in the region has done more than Kyle Eades. The Mustangs will be a tough out come tournament time. They will look to make a statement at home on Tuesday, hosting Daviess County. On Friday they travel to Mclean County.

7.Meade County Greenwave (9-6) – DOWN 3 – The Waves drop 3 spots this week, but take that with a grain of salt. You could throw a blanket over the teams in the middle of this poll. With 3 straight, 3rd region championship game appearances under their belt, they expect to figure into things down the stretch. The dropped games to Louisville Valley Tuesday & Breck County on Friday. As long as they arent upset in another district contest they will still hold the #1 seed. Aiden Mattews stayed the constant this week, scoring 33 against Valley and 22 against Breck. They host North Hardin Tuesday & Cloverport on Friday. On Saturday, they travel to Daviess County for a big one.

8.Ohio County Eagles (8-9) – SAME - The Eagles ended their 3 game skid in impressive fashion, a 51-46 win at Henderson County. Earlier in the week, they dropped a tough one at home, 67-64 to South Warren. They host Apollo tomorrow & Hopkins Central on Thursday. Friday they travel to Breck on Friday.

9.Hancock County Hornets (11-9) – UP 2 – The Hornets have won 2 straight. On Tuesday they knocked of Cloverport. Friday they got a nice 71-61 win on the road at Mclean County. They play South Spencer Indiana tonight before hosting the Hancock County classic this weekend.

10.Whitesville Trinity Raiders (12-11) - DOWN 1 - Trinity split a pair of games this past week, opening with a tough 70-67 loss at Mclean County. They did bounce back however with a big district win in Grayson County, 51-47. While seeding isnt all that important in the very even 12th district, as of right now the Raiders control their own destiny for the #1 seed. They have two big district road games this week at Edmonson and Butler Co.

11.Butler County Bears (8-9) – SAME – The Bears knocked off Caverna this week 93-80. Will Moore scored 35 and joined the 1000 point club. Moore continues to be one of the best scorers in the region. Butler has home games against Hart County tonight and Trinity Friday. They travel to Hopkins Central on Saturday.

12.Grayson County Cougars (8-13) – DOWN 2 – The Cougars have lost 5 of their last 6 games. They dropped a pair of games last week to Breck County and Trinity. They host Mclean County on Tuesday and have a district game at Edmonson on Friday.

13.Edmonson County Wildcats (6-15) – SAME – Edmonson got a win in their lone game this week. They knocked off Metcalfe County, 66-48. Cole Tucker and Logan Lindsey led the way with 13 each. The Cats host a pair of district games this week, tomorrow vs Trinty and Friday vs Grayson. This weekend they travel to the Hancock County Classic.

14.Mclean County Cougars (6-12) – SAME – Mclean split a pair of games this week, opening with a nice win at home 70-67 over Trinity before falling to Hancock on Friday, 71-61. They have 4 games this week, starting tonight at home against Dawson Springs. Tuesday they travel to Grayson County before returning home this weekend for games against Muhlenberg and Union Co.

15.Cloverport Aces (2-17) – SAME – The Aces dropped a pair of games this week to Bethlehem and Hancock County. They are back in action on Friday at Meade County before hosting Dawson Springs on Saturday.

GAMES TO WATCH THIS WEEK

Breck County - games at Apollo & OHS, plus a home games against Ohio County and Catholic this weekend. If they can go 3-1, heads will turn.

TUE - Daviess County at Muhlenberg - should be a great game. Can Muhlenberg finish off a big win they missed last week? Catholic at Madisonville - tough road test for the Aces, can they start trending things in the right direction this week?

FRI - 9th District Games - Can Apollo close the gap with Owensboro & can DC hold off Catholic to keep the tie with Owensboro for the 1 seed?

SAT - Meade Co @ Daviess Co - measuring stick game for the Waves. A win on the road would show that they can compete with anyone in the region.

Owensboro got back on track against Breck. I am anxious to see what happens against apollo Friday. I hope the game has all the intensity of previous years. Should be good.

Interesting game. Apollo might be coming around at the right time. They could be ready to upset County in the district. One thing I don't know is was the win more of what Apollo did, or what Owensboro did not do? Either way, it was a good win for the Eagles.

Big win for Apollo, no question. I think it was a little bit of both. Apollo took away a lot of things Owensboro liked to do and took very good care of the ball in the 2nd half. On the other hand, OHS did not match Apollo's energy and had some bad sets in the 2nd half. Im not sure why the Devils went away from Creamer for most of the half? I think the win was more important to Apollo than Owensboro. It was a big lift to show they can compete inside the district. Not sure how the seeding is going to play out just yet but any 1st round matchup should be a good one.

I wondered why Creamer wasn't in the game at the end myself. A lot of things went on in the second half that I didn't understand. Like Owensboro's response to Apollo's box and 1. Just leave the kid standing in the corner? Oh well. Nice win for the Eagles, carry that energy on to County this friday.
