Mercy 56 Highlands 42

Recommended Posts

Didn't make this one, but heard Mercy is very good. Physical big and athletic. HHS was winning the game with two minutes left in the first half and Mercy went on a 14-0 run at the end of the half and beginning of the third. HHS never recovered, but played them even pretty much the rest of the game. HHS relies on scouting and game planning and they had not seen Mercy play at all. They were supposed to play Manual and they were not allowed to participate due to being off school on Friday. Highlands left the Fort having no idea who they would play. Not saying they win, but definitely would have made a difference knowing and putting a report together prior to the game. One of the Mercy girls had 7 3's. You just don't see that against HHS very often. They rely a lot on their defense and shutting down players and tendencies. Not seeing them was a challenge.

But it was great for them to see the size, speed and physicality of a team like this. Not only did Mercy have a close game with the Rogers team (nationally ranked), they also recently beat Butler.

Next up for HHS is Male. Their record going into the region may not look good, but they will be tested and will have seen just about anything any 9th region team can throw at them. After a lackluster game against HC, they had a team meeting and this team has decided to play with more intensity and more physical. They weren't ready to throw in the towel.

I noticed on the KHSAA that Clukey has not played the last few games. Is she now injured also?

She decided she wanted to move on. Shame. Really good athlete and hate not seeing her on a Bball court.
