11th Region Rankings for the week of January 18th

Recommended Posts

1. Dunbar – Really tempted to put Scott County here but Dunbar has so many quality wins. The Bulldogs have 4 losses, but their schedule is much tougher to this point than Scott’s. Their only game this week is a district rematch against Lex Cath on Thursday night.

2. Scott County – Sitting at 19-1 through 2/3 of the season, the Cardinals are a very legitimate threat to win the 11th and get to Rupp. They host their annual Toyota Classic this week.

3. Henry Clay – The Devils have struggled lately, dropping 2 out of their last 4. They host Tates Creek Tuesday then the LIT Champion Ballard Bruins come to town on Wednesday night.

4. Lafayette – The Generals have won 6 straight and are undefeated in 2016. However, looking at their schedule, I don’t see one (to this point) win that makes you think they are capable of getting to Rupp. They take part in the Toyota Classic at Scott County starting Thursday night.

5. Lexington Catholic – Winners of 6 out of their last 9, the Knights have managed to play everyone close but have yet to get the marquee win they need to solidify themselves as a threat to return to Rupp.

6. Madison Central – The win over Dunbar was a huge one but they fell short against Hopkinsville on Friday night. They have a big week ahead with games against Bryan Station, West Jessamine, Lincoln County and Southwestern all in the next 5 days.

7. Lexington Christian – Losers of 6 in a row, LCA enters the All A as the heavy favorites to represent the 11th at the All A State tournament. A game against Berea on Monday is exactly what they need to get back on the winning side of things.

8. Madison Southern – This flock of Eagles have won all the games they should have and lost to everyone who is better than them. The loss to Berea is a surprise and probably an outlier. They play East Jessamine and Male this week.

9. Frankfort – 3 wins in a row for the Panthers, including a win over Bryan Station. I don’t think they can win a game in the region but I think they can get there. They’ll play in the All A this week.

10. Bryan Station – Sitting at 7-11 and losers of 8 in a row, the Defenders are REALLY hoping to see DeAndre Dishman back on the court soon before this whole season is lost.

11. Model – Can’t figure this team out. They beat Madison Southern and lost to Western Hills. They take on Sayre in the All A this week.

12. Woodford County – Losers of 4 out of their last 5, the Yellow Jackets play Western Hills, Bryan Station and Owen County this week.

13. Franklin County – Improving as the year goes along, the young Flyer squad has the look of a team that could sneak into the regional tournament next month.

14. Tates Creek – Only 3-13 but they play a much more difficult schedule than the rest of the teams at the bottom of the region and I can appreciate that. They should schedule the way Berea does.

15. Sayre – They face Model this week in the All A. If Jake Duby can get hot, he may carry them to the next round of the tournament.

16. Western Hills – They’ve split their last 4 games but their 3 most recent losses are by a combined 15 points. The Wolverines could show up in the 11th region tournament by the end of the year.

17. Berea – Picked up a big win over Burgin this week to end an 8 game losing streak. They host LCA in the All A on Monday night.
