3rd Region Rankings (1/11/16)

Recommended Posts

1.Meade County(13-3 SAME) - Meade split a pair of games this week, winning at home vs Bullet Central but losing on the road to an 8-8 John Hardin team. The Waves put all 5 starters in double figures against BC. The loss to John Hardin tightens the gap with Daviess County, but the Waves strength of losses are solid. Mercer County and South Oldham only have 1 loss combined. Meade has a home district game vs Hancock Tuesday and travels to Elizabethtown on Friday.

2.Daviess County(13-4 UP 1) - The Panthers took a big step forward this week with 3 wins(Greenwood, Mclean and Apollo). DC has the best player in the region in Stewart Currie who averaged 21 points and 13 rebounds in the 3 wins. Caden Coomes and Nick Driskell have stepped into the lineup for DC and are having a very positive impact. Daviess has big road games this week at Breck and Ohio County.

3.Breck County(12-4 DOWN 1) - The Tigers keep swapping spots with the Panthers, but a big district loss to Hancock County, was a tough setback. The Tigers bounced back Saturday with a win over Louisville Holy Cross. The loss to Hancock almost assures Meade County of the #1 seed in the 11th district, meaning Breck will have to face the Hornets again in district elimination play. Breck's lone game this week is Tuesday at home vs DC.

4.Owensboro Catholic(9-5 UP 1) - The Aces are the hottest team in the 3rd region. After starting the season 0-4, they have won 9 of 10 games. Tim Riley has the Aces playing very strong, defeating Owensboro 63-49. Catholic also defeated Grayson County this weekend. Ray Zuerber has really found his touch as of late. He gives the Aces an extra dimension they were lacking early. Catholic travels to Whitesville on Tuesday and then hosts Apollo Thursday in a big 9th district contest.

5.Edmonson County(11-6 UP 4) - Edmonson has reeled off 4 straight wins, 3 against 3rd region opponents. The Wildcats are getting 18 points per game from Austin Sowders and 16ppg from Hunter Buttram. Their lone game this week is against district foe Butler County.

6.Hancock Co(8-7 UP 4) - The Hornets have been all over this poll with impressive wins vs Apollo and Breck County and ugly losses to Butler County and other Indiana schools. Ty Ogle has been the driving force for Hancock. When he scores over 20 points, the Hornets are unbeaten this season. Hancock travels to Meade County for a big 11th district matchup on Tuesday.

7.Apollo(6-9 SAME) - The Eagles split a pair or region games last week, winning on the road at Grayson County while coming up short at Daviess County. The Eagles struggled to find their way vs DC without guard Lex Smith in the lineup. An interesting twist could be the return of PG Ben Moss to the program. Rumors are swirling that he is waiting to become eligible to re-join the team. Apollo has big district matchups this week with OHS and Catholic.

8.Owensboro(4-6 DOWN 4) - The Devils are living on potential right now. They have shown the ability but have yet to show the wins. They suffered a major district setback to Catholic this past week and have only played 2 games in 3 weeks. Thats tough for a young squad. They get a chance to bounce back this week, as they host Apollo on Tuesday and travel to Muhlenberg on Friday.

9.Muhlenberg County(6-9 DOWN 3) - The Mustangs have fallen on hard times, losing 5 of their last 6 games. While they have played a very tough schedule, the Mustangs losses to Madisonville and Henderson were very winable games. Muhlenberg have been playing without top scorer Noah McElwain as of late. Hes been out with an ankle injury. They will try to bounce back this week with 3 games vs St Mary, Mclean and Owensboro.

10.Grayson County(8-7 DOWN 2) - The Cougars are trending down after 3 straight regional losses to Apollo, Edmonson and Catholic. They will have a home game against Ohio County Tuesday before traveling to the Barn to take on Whitesville Trinity in a 12th district battle on Thursday.

11.Ohio County(8-9 UP 2) - This is a team that appears to be improving every time out. The Eagles had a nice week with wins over Russellville and Mclean. They have a chance to continue their climb up the poll with regional games this week vs Grayson and Daviess.

12.Whitesville Trinity(8-7 SAME) - The Raiders are a few bounces away from having a better record after suffering some very close losses to Edmonson and Ft Knox. They bounced back with a nice district win over Butler County on Friday. Trinity has a big week, as they welcome Catholic and Grayson into the barn.

13.Butler County(9-5 DOWN 2) - The Bears have lost 3 of their last 4, dropping district games to Grayson and Trinity over the past week. They have regional matchups this week against Cloverport and Edmonson.

14.Mclean County(3-11 SAME) - The Cougars continue to struggle after losses to Daviess and Ohio County this week. They were without the services of leading scorers Will Hudson and Sam Miller due to illness. The Cougars still have time to get things going in the right direction but its been a very disappointing start to a promising season.

15.Cloverport(3-10 SAME) - The Aces got on the board this week with 3 big wins. Its great for a school that lost half its roster due to graduation. These young Aces are learning how to win!

OHS was flat awful against Catholic last Friday. Hinton is off the team and Ishawn Murphy wasn't at the game on Friday. Hopefully he's not off too. Such a promising, fun, rebuilding season, all of a sudden looks to be a "lets just field a competitive team" right now. Gonna find out a lot against Apollo tomorrow.
