Warren East 6-7 Newport Central Catholic 1-3

Recommended Posts

The Breds were finally able to get on the field today and play a full game, the 1st since March 31st, and it showed in game one. NewCath played Warren East in a Varsity, JV, Varsity match-up this afternoon and evening (was supposed to play Bellevue at 7:00, but they had to cancel for lack of players).

Game One

It was the "Tale of Two Pitchers" tonight as NewCath ace Haley Meyers only surrenders 6 hits, however, 4 walks and 5 hit batters did their damage. On the flip-side, Warren East used a combination of 8th grader Katie Gardner and 7th grader Olivia Price to stymie the Breds and allow only two hits including an RBI single off the bat of Loren Zimmerman in the 6th for the Breds only hit of the game. Warren East got all the needed in the 1st, as they push 2 runs across without the add of a hit. An error, sac, 2 hit batters, & 2 walks do the damage. They would score 2 more in the 2nd following a double by So. catcher Kendall Smith and another hit batter, an RBI single by Jr. Erin Houchins and a RBI groundout by Jr. Brooklynn Willis make it 4-0. They would plate 1 each in the 5th (RBI single by So. Haylee Glenn) & 6th (sac bunt by Erin Houchins).

Game Two

This one started out better as the Breds left 6 runners in scoring position in the 3rd, 4th, 5th , & 7th, but could not push them across and they fall in game two 7-4. NewCath's Haley Meyers only goes 3 innings giving up only 3 hits, but walks 7 batters, including the 1st 3 of the 4th and Fr. Jaden Watts is brought in. The Frosh does a great job in giving up only 3 hits and allowing only 1 run.

Warren East gets on the board right away in the 1st, as lead-off batter So. catcher Kendall Smith singles and scores on a sac-bunt.

NewCath quickly takes the lead in their half of the 1st on a beautiful lead-off bunt by Michaela Ware and then Casey Kohls "unloads" on one an drives it out of the park for a 2-run "dong", her 2nd of the year. However, Warren East grabs the lead in the 2nd. With two out and 2 on (courtesy of an error and walk) Kendall Smith hits a "laserbeam" to the fence in left-center and the Raiders take a 3-2 advantage. Warren East would score 3 in the 4th on 1 hit and a sac-bunt. NewCath gets a run back in the 5th, but that's it.

NewCath Sr. Casey Kohls goes 4-4.

Everyone knows I think Kristen Schreiber has a gun for an arm, boys and girls let me tell ya, Warren East So. catcher Kendall Smith (who has turned down 2 offers to U of L according to their coach) has a BAZOOKA. :scared: Aint' NOBODY that throws like this girl in NKY, plus she's the lead-off hitter.

Warren East played great fundamental ball, 8 sac-bunts in 2 games. Their coach told me most of the girls play either travel ball or play in a fall league. I told him our fall league is soccer and/or volleyball. :grumpy:

Softball is SERIOUS in WKY.
