Inside Capital City Football Week 3

Franklin County Flyers travel to Oldham County and picked up their first road win of the season defeating Oldham County 56-17 and improve to 3-0 on the season. The Flyers last week had a balanced attack on offense putting up over 300 yards rushing and 390 yards passing. This year’s Flyers defensive has really stepped up only giving up an average of 11.3 points per game.

The Frankfort Panthers picked up their first win of the season at home Friday night against the Green County Dragons and improve their record to 1-1. The young Panthers relied heavy on their defense to help pull out the win Friday night. Frankfort defeated Green County 25-8.

But this week in the Capital City it is Rivalry week as the Franklin County and Frankfort High will do battle at Sower Field. This rivalry was renewed in 2003. During the last ten years Franklin County has won 8 out of 10 games with 4 of those wins being decided by a margin of 9.4 points. The Flyers victory last year was the largest margin in this modern era. The two wins that Frankfort has in this most recent series have been by an average margin of 9.5. Their most recent victory was in 2009 when the Panthers defeated the Flyers 28-13.

Can the Panthers upset the high flying Flyers?

Though many around the state may not rank this among one of the greatest in the state, but the city of Frankfort really gets ramped up and excited for this one.

Western Hills

The Western Hills Wolverines (1-1) are on the road again this week as they travel to 5A West Jessamine (1-1). Western Hills was open last week so they have spent time reviewing and working to improve on the mistakes from the previous week. Two weeks ago the Wolverines had trouble hanging on to the football in the 2nd quarter they led to several points for the Flyers.

This week Western Hills will have to deal West Jessamine and their ground attack leading rusher Devin Taylor who is averaging 231 yard per game after 3 games. Also the Wolverines will have to help it’s defense out by taking better care of the football. With 2 weeks to prepare I know coach Miller will have his team ready to play.
