I agree with you 100% Ram. But the Tony Franklin System is what it is. It is a "system" that is designed to spread the ball around to a variety of recievers in the short and intermediate passing game and then use the short passing game to open up the deeper routes for some big plays. The Tony Franklin Offense uses the screens to the backs and recievers as an alternate way to run the ball. Instead of running sweeps and options to get the ball out on the edge, they simply toss the ball to a reciever who is already outside. The big misconception with this offense is that the running game is automatically inaffective just because it is a passing oriented offense. I have seen this offense produce very balanced running statistics over the past several years. Many people think that you can just go and change the "system" and it will automatically work. Thats not the case, Coach Franklin and many other college coaches such as Texas Tech's Mike Leach have designed this offense and understand far better than any of us. If a team wants to run the Tony Franklin System then they need to run the Tony Franklin System. Dont try to half-way run it, or partially run it. It is a "system" for a reason, it all works well together and the plays have been carefully created to complement each other. I am a big fan of this offense because it allows smaler teams to match up with the bigger stronger teams. It also spreads the ball around to a variety of play makers and allows your QB to complete a high percentage of his passes and really take control of the offense. However, in order to run this offense you do have to have a QB who is able to read defensive coverages well and manage the game effectively. I think Greenup is really making a bad move by going away from the system. I know the first year didnt go so well but it takes time to develope into a Tony Franklin team. It took Raceland several years before they were effective in this offense but look where it took them in 2006 and even in 2002 when they won a district championship. My advice to G.C. is to stick with the Tony Franklin Offense and good things will happen. Craft is a solid QB, and Im sure he learned alot from last season. Greenup will never be able to match up with teams like Johnson Central, Rockcastle, Russell, ect. if they try to run it down there throat, IMO.

Excellent all-around performance by the Rams tonight! Sparks, Boyles, Martin and all the guys stepped it up and played a good one. This is a big win for the Ramblers!!! Keep working hard guys! Congrats to Coach Floyd, who put together a great game plan, he keeps getting better with each and every game. Scott Floyd is going to be a really great coach when its all said and done. Everyone needs to remember that this is just his first year as being the varsity head coach. GO RAMS!

Who will be the QB for the east team? Im thinking Jones from Russell is the only senior QB from the east. I just figured he would play primarily on the defensive side of the ball.

Coach Hoof does an oustanding job at Raceland. He is not only a great coach but he is a great role model for his players. I know from my experience being around Coach Hoof, I learned alot about sports but I learned more about life and family. You cant put a statistic on what this man teaches his players, he is truely a class act. Raceland fans can be hard on him sometimes (especially on the football field) but they should be and I think they are, greatful to have such an outstanding coach in both football and baseball.

I think Carrol will end up at KCU. I know Coach Damron has been very interested in him as a DB.

Bret Denton - Raceland Rashard Carter - Ashland These two get my votes for the best RB's coming out of the Ashland-Area in eastern KY.

I have also heard that J.T. will be transferring to Thomas More in the fall. Im not sure of the exact reason he is transfering from KCU. I kinda seen this coming after I heard Grizzle was transferring to Georgetown because him and J.T. are very good friends. Im not saying that was the reason but it does make sense. I have always thought that J.T. could play college football at a high level and I think he will fit in very nicely at Thomas More. He is the perfect definition of a middle linebacker! I wish him the best of luck and hopefully he will stay injury free!

Boyles in one of the best all-around ball players in the region. Im looking forward to watching him perform in the district and regional tourny's.

Also, state championship contenders dont lose games to teams that they have no business losing to. Example, the loses last year against East and West carter, should have never happened. No offense to East or West but IMO Raceland had no business losing to either of those teams last year. I felt like the Rams last year just showed up and played when they felt like it, they didnt bring it every friday night. If they want to have a shot at going to Louisville or even have a shot at beating the 87' & 06' team records, then they cant take games off. Also, they need to show some emotion out there. I felt like there were times last year when they were lifeless out there on the field. But once again, this all goes back to leadership. They must develope some leaders in the senior class. You can say what you want but nothing get a team ready to go then a senior leader, who has the respect of his peers, steps up and gets the other guys in gear for the games. What Im saying is, they need to bring their A game every friday night because every school in this area is going to bring their A game when they play the Rams. We have had alot of good teams in our schools history but now its time to get over the hump and this years team has that capability. The playoff system is more favorable now than it has ever been for us and we have ALOT of talent coming back. Its not going to be easy but if they get their heads on straight and learn that football isnt about making friends, its about punishing the other team and winning at all costs, then they will have a shot to be great. But until someone lights a fire under this team, they will be average, just like in 07'.

Im sure the devils will put together another nice season in 08', they always do. Cant say enough about the job coach McGlone and the other coaches at RHS do year in and year out. However, IMO they dont have the "go-to" guy at running back like they have had in the past with Gross and Clark. I think they have some good running backs but no one really stands out more then the others. Also replacing Jones at QB wont be an easy task. Im sure Cordle can get the job done but Jones was a terrific leader for the devils and that can be tough to replace. IMO Mason county will get them in the district championship but the devils still put together a solid season.

The Rams played good D all night and IMO Thomas for Ashland had some trouble shooting on those rims at "The Palace". Also I thought Coach Floyd did a great job last night, good all-around coaching effort by him. GO RAMS!!!

Hieneman for GC is in a league by himself. I dont think any other pitchers in the region have commited to a D1 school so far. He is hands down the #1 guy. After him I would have to say Rigsby (Ashland), Helms (Boyd), and Wilson (Raceland).

Raceland has the potential to be better than the 06 team this year but I wouldnt count my eggs before they hatch rams78. The 06' team is in a completely different league then the 07' team. The 06' team played in the 4 class system, which is much more difficult to compete in than the watered down 6 class system. They had a complete team that year with one of the most high scoring offenses in the class A and the top ranked defense in class A. Raceland lead the region in wins, total points scored, and total points allowed in 06' despite losing in the regional championship to NCC (eventual state champs). They had two all-state players and 11 all district players. The rams of 2006 tied for the best team in school history. No matter what anybody says, you cant take that away from them, along with the 87 team, they are the best RHS team of all-time. Their record and stats are proof of that. My point is, this years team has a long way to go before they get to that level. I have no doubt in my mind that they can be as good, if not better, than the 2006 team but they arent there yet. It takes alot of hard work in the weight room this winter and a great summer. Its not all about talent, they also need to develope some leaders. The seniors on the 2008 team arent vocal leaders, and people can say what they want about players leading by "example" and what not, but being a vocal leader and keeping the other guys in line and focused is a huge key for success. The 06' team had those type leaders, im not sure if 2008 rams do right now. They have all the talent in the world, a great coaching staff, and an absolute beast at running back (Denton)....but they need to develop the intangibles it takes to win championships. Those boys are gonna need to grow into men by August, because I guarantee the guys up at Beechwood and LCA are working just as hard. I hope they get there because I really think this team has a shot at making it to the Pizza Box!

Tyler Farley will be the back up. I guarantee it, he will be the starter in 09', Hoof will want him to get atleast some experience this year.

I think Farley will be the back up qb. The only way you gain experience is to get in there and do it. He will get plenty of reps in practice and some at the end of games. Another year starting on jv and taking charge of the backup role on varsity this year, and I think he will be ready to go for his junior year. The kid has alot of talent.
