  1. Neither team hit well in this one, but at the end of the day poor defense IMO lost this this game. Conner had two different opportunities on ground balls to get out of trouble and couldn't seal the deal! Conner's pitching threw well enough to win this tight game, but the defense let them down!
  2. This game was going into the bottom of the 4th, Dunbar leading 9 to 8. They proceeded to put up a nine spot, and with a man on 1st and 3rd and two outs picked off the runner at first in the top of the fifth!:idunno: Conner had 5 costly errors in this game, but both teams pitching were unimpressive! Losing Shuttleworth is HUGE, not only is he Conner's ace, he is also their leadoff batter and a fine outfielder! Russell and West must now be relied upon for some quality innings!
  3. It's nice to finally get outside, the weather however was horrible for baseball on Saturday! It rained the entire 6 innings, and the pitchers mound was definitely an issue for both teams for a couple of innings! Not sure how many hits that Conner had, but except for Tyler Brake's 1st inning bomb not a whole lot of noise from the bats. The pitchers got some good work, and was particularly interested in new comer Brennen Russell. He could add some quality innings to an already good staff of pitchers!
  4. My son has been using the V12 this winter and so far he has no complaints! It seems to have alot of pop, how long it lasts remains to be seen!:sssh:
  5. Conner may surprise some teams this year with a potentially good pitching staff, composed of Shuttleworth, Samad, Noll, and Gill! They really need someone to step up at shortstop, but otherwise should be quite competitive!
  6. This isn't as easy as you make it sound, when you have rich alumni pumping in thousands of dollars to Tand X's athletic programs, and most of the public schools supporting their sports programs from the sales of however many hamburgers and hot dogs that they sell!!! Also, for example, in Boone Co. you have 4 6A schools in the same county spreading out all the good athletes who otherwise would have stayed together! Trinity has two thousand of the top boy athletes in their area to choose from, for example Conner is left with approx. 700 boys after possibly losing some good athletes to Cooper or Ryle because of re-districting!:irked:
  7. And yet outsiders still manage to scrutinize NKY football... Amazes me.
  8. SK played against a much better defense this week at Boone, and they better not make the same mistake that Boone did, that is a more balanced offensive attack! It will be crucial that they can work in some kind of aerial game along with the defensive performance they executed against Boone! By the way, who is number 74 on SK'S line, does he have any offers?:thumb:
  9. A good battle between these teams on the line of scrimmage, great game by Matt Neil! IMO Boone once again was way to conservative, it's that old Big Ten mentality, field position and clock management. Spalding and Loesak have to touch the ball more in a game like this! It was so refreshing to watch Boone defenders actually tackle Simpson by his legs, time, and time again! Unfortunately the one time they didn't he made them pay with a good stiff arm and long touchdown run! Good luck next week Pioneers!
  10. IMO, If Bustle is put back under center, and used like he was against Conner this past Friday, rushing for 100 yds. on misdirections, It could prove to be helpful in putting up points!
  11. Your head goes in front of the ball carrier, not directly into them! I could only hope more local coaches take your advice, and make advancing the football that much easier for the Cougars! :thumb:
  12. Glad to see that there is someone else out there that ACTUALLY knows how to tackle! :jump:
  13. Do me a favor, and ask the Conner defender on SK'S last two point conversion if high tackling is a good idea against the likes of Miles Simpson! I'm not sure who it was, but a Conner defender, at about the 1 yard line tried to stick his helmet and shoulder under Mr. Simpson's chin, only to land on his back while having his chest stepped on as Miles exploded into the end zone! Their isn't a Pee Wee coach worth his salt that wouldn't have laughed at that attempt!:lol:
  14. No Kickerboy, but I might be getting a random stop in the near future!:scared: I was just venting my frustrations, Again if everyone would read my entire post they could read IMO more than once, and even a couple of praises along the way! Although I always enjoy getting advice on the fundamentals of football from all these local high school BOY'S!:lol:
  15. Tell me Coop, just what is it,in your humble opinion, the obvious problems with this defense?
  16. Yes he did, he also played at Notre Dame, and in the NFL!:thumb:
  17. If you actually read my post verbatim, nowhere does it mention DIVING OR LEAVING YOUR FEET, OR SLINGING SOMEONE TO THE GROUND! A tackler's shoulder should hit anywhere between the belly button to just below the knees, followed by wrapping the arms and driving the ball carrier to the ground with your legs! Now that tackling 101 is over, lets get back to the point, and quit splitting hairs here! Even if your vast knowledge of proper form tackling is correct, the proper way to tackle, even as YOU SEE IT, doesn't occur on this team! Please don't insult my intelligence when it comes to fundamental football!
  18. This was a great game no doubt, and so many details could be discussed, but I only will discuss this one! Before I get started let me first say that in 30 years of watching high school football Miles Simpson is one of the best I've ever seen! The things that this young man can do, most of which are natural abilities, is amazing! His vision, ability to make people miss while continuing his forward progress, strength, speed, and agility rivals some of the best running backs this entire state has offered for decades! That being said, IMO,Conner's lack of defense is what lost this game. Obviously the two turnovers proved to be costly, as in any big game, but it was the tackling IMO that proved to be the difference! This Cougar defense has not tackled well all year, with the exception of the Ryle game. That my friends comes down to coaching! Not to put a damper on a great season by the Cougars, or try and throw any one individual coach under the bus,but the tackling was an embarrassment. I've seen better tackling technique from an 8 year old pee wee football team:irked: If this type of approach to tackling is aloud to go on for an entire season and isn't addressed, one has to wonder about whoever is teaching it! Miles Simpson, Charles Quainoo, and even any of the best NFL running backs WILL GO DOWN IF YOU TACKLE THEM BY THE LEGS, PERIOD! :irked::irked: In the biggest game of the year Conner allowed more points than they have ALL YEAR to an opponent! No way does your offense put up 41 points and LOSE! Good luck to the Pioneers next week, and to the Cougars in the up coming season! :thumb::thumb:
  19. The Birds lose this one, Ashland by 7!:eek:
  20. Honestly, I have spent some time on this field painting the end zones before the game and walking up and down it's entire length. Let me tell you that from the stands, the condition of the field appears much better than it actually is! Looking straight down on the field the majority of the field is sparce. Any kind of significant precipitation will greatly effect a players footing!:thumb:
  21. I have to admit, although I didn't know much about Tate's Creek coming in, I was some what surprised that this team wasn't a little more competitive! I know for years back in the 70's and 80's this school always produced some competitive teams. Conner still needs to tackle better, especially on kickoffs, but I must admit their defense has looked much improved! Good luck next week against the Pioneers! This Pioneer team seems to be playing much better of late, which should make for an interesting match up! GO COUGARS :dancingpa
  22. Bottom line,as with any team that has a running back of Simpson's caliber, if you can hold him down it will be a long night for SK!:thumb:
  23. Great pressure on the QB all night, a little bit sloppy with the penalties and the kickoff team still needs to tackle better, but a good finish to a successful season! Good luck next week against Tates Creek! :ylsuper:
  24. So much for that stellar Camel defense!
  25. Yeah, Ok I don't totally disagree, but let West play with Highlands O-line and the comparison becomes much, much closer as far as individual talent!:jump:
