Ryle 31 Conner 22
They were their throughout the game! Three other trips to the redzone, one nice defensive stand by the Raiders, but two other dropped passes in the endzone!! :puke: Wide open! :puke: and a missed field goal! Ryle deserved the win, bottom line they flatout executed better than Conner! As far as a running game pleaseee! With exception of two games this year when does conner ever try to establish a running game!:idunno: Good luck to both teams in the playoffs!

With the exception of Lloyd and Scott., Oldham Co., Dixie and Holy Cross aren't exactly cream puffs! I get that compared to the rest of NKY 6A teams that Conner took the easier road and that playing stronger non conference opponents in theory makes you stronger in the end! One could also argue that building some confidence and not risking major injuries to key players just for the sake of saying we played all the big boys and lost every game by 2 or 3 TD'S is also wise! The games begin for real next week, good luck to all! :jump:

A great win for Conner! The defense looked really good, but kickoff coverage needs some work! All in all a solid performance!:dancingpa

Dixie / Conner predictions
Two of those fumbles were forced out! Conners defense played very well that night. That game was no way lopsided in time of possession or total yardage! Conners defense, although untested here lately has made much improvement on their tackling and pass coverage over last year! I would be surprised if you see Dixie score over 24 pts.:sssh:

This Conner offense has alot of work to do and running the ball effectively is the number 1 issue IMO. If anyone has watched Conner's new offensive approach, it has never been advantageous to effectively run the football out of the tailback position. Not one top runner in the state of KY could be expected to have lavish numbers. By the time the football is given to them, they have come to a complete stop at the line of scrimmage. In most cases, the blocking has now broken down and you are surrounded by 3 or 4 defenders. Some quick pitches, counter plays or trap blocking plays must be instituted in this single back set. Enough about the offense, Conner's defense looked great tonight. The front four had some difficulty getting pressure on the QB, but were supplemented well with the blitz packages. Ryan Delph and Eric Champ played very well in the secondary. Thomas Henessey had a great game and was in on several tackles. The linebacker core for the most part, looked good and flew to the ball well. They forced 2 of the 4 fumbles! Austin Pugh had 16 solo tackles, a tipped pass, a forced fumble and a sack. If this defense can continue to hold teams under 20 points, they will be successful as a team.

Beechwood/Conner Scrimmage
My bad!
-
Beechwood/Conner Scrimmage
Not likely, based on how well they executed it last season, but that is one of the questions with a new O-line!
-
Beechwood/Conner Scrimmage
Wow, Crunch Time I appreciate you playing the devils advocate so early in the season and I'm sure the coaches share some of your same concerns! Lets face it, just like in the pros the score of a scrimage game is secondary! The only reason their is any optimism in Hebron is because of a winning season last year after going 1 and 9 the previous season! Losing Scooter on offense and basically replacing their entire O-line is HUGE! Not to mention losing two of top defensive ends in NKY! As far making Beechwood jump offsides SEVERAL times, and the interception, thats called football and one would think that Beechwood needs to work on a few of the finer points of the game! If you watched any Conner football at all last season you would no that drawing 2 or 3 offsides a game is a part of their plan! As far as Pugh's run if you were located in the South endzone behind Conner's offense Pugh was standing firmly on his feet at all times! The left side was sealed off and he did exactly what a good tailback should do, kick outside and out run the secondary to the endzone! Make no mistake Conner has a long way to go before the district games begin, but I think they will still be competitive by that time! You also may want to consider a few more IMO in future posts! :idunno:

The runner indeed beat the throw, but was totally blocked off the plate and then promptly tagged!:sssh:

Conner 8 Ryle 3
Conner also had its share of miscues, 3 times base runners on second base made huge outs, by awful decisions, only to be followed by a hit 2 of the 3 times! Isn't taking advantage of a teams mistakes how you play the game? :idunno:

IMO Noll would fall in at number 3 after Shuttleworth and Samad, maybe even 4 after West!

2009 Conner
IMO,one of Conner's biggest challenges this year will be to replace their offensive line. Losing Scooter will also be a HUGE role to fill. A few soph's and Jr's are going to really have to step up and play well in these positions. Also, losing Englemon on special teams will be hard to replace. It does not seem to me that Conner will have anyone with that type of speed. Obviously the spread offensive does work well for Conner but they still need to have that deep threat receiver for quick long scores. If they are unable to find that type of receiver, then they will be forced to try to run the ball more effectively. Defensively, losing Geiman, will be big shoes to fill at linebacker. The secondary must get better in shutting down the big play especially on 3rd down. The overall tackling skills need to be improved. Conner should still be a very competitive football team when in comes to District play!

Conner 8 NCC 2
Great pitching performance by Samad, he kept the hitters off balance all game and got out of a couple of big jams! The defense was a little better, but still needs to be more dependable in key situations! The hitting today was very good, add a couple of clutch hits by Conner's two sophomores and this game was in control the whole way! :dancingpa
