gamer31 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Great win today for the Birds. Sainola got the win going the distance, and Teddy Abner's suicide squeeze proved to be the difference. Hopefully a win like this will get the Birds ready to make a run!!
NamecipS Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Glad to see the 'Birds get a quality win. I think it was Rizzo who was called out at the plate to end the 6th. From my view, he appeared get to the plate before the tag.
tdyballgame Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 They have had two quality games in a row. I know it doesn't sound like much, but with the way the season has gone, not quite up to everyone's expectations, this can only build their confidence in the weeks to come. As for todays game, nice to hear Ryan went the distance and kids did their job when asked to. Also heard Conner's players have some extra chalk on their cleats. That's alright, Birds got the win!
gamer31 Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 That H on the field was great. I think it was a special addition for senior night yesterday. It seems like I remember a football game with Conner back in '96 when some chalk happened to make it all over the field in the letters CHS. I dont think that one turned out good for the Cougars either....
homeofthewhopper Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 (edited) Who pitched for Connor? Edited May 13, 2009 by Ram Rule 13
gamer31 Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 41 started and 14 finished. 36 I think was the catcher hit a BOMB to center field.

Fast Hands Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 (edited) Yes from the angle I had, it appeared the catcher clearly had the plate blocked. Good call I say. Edited May 14, 2009 by Ram Rule 13

Congrats to the birds lets keep this fire and fun going to finish the year on a successful note.
Clyde Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 The runner indeed beat the throw, but was totally blocked off the plate and then promptly tagged!:sssh: Was he blocking the plate after he caught the ball or before he caught the ball?
cooperstown Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Was he blocking the plate after he caught the ball or before he caught the ball? Good point. Yet another rule difference between OBR and NFHS, as OBR would allow the catcher to block plate as long as he was in the act of fielding a throw, while NFHS actually requires him to be in possession of the ball to block the plate. However, you never see this (obstruction) called in NFHS when the catcher blocks the plate without possession of the ball.
NamecipS Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 The runner indeed beat the throw, but was totally blocked off the plate and then promptly tagged!:sssh: "Totally", I can't get on board with that. The catcher had his foot out there, but I believe when the runner slid in to the foot, he pushed the catcher's foot across the plate before the tag was made. The run should have counted. Either way, in the end it didn't make a difference in the game.

Saw it called tonite as well.
