My turn. Since I have alot of respect for Johnny Hines' gameplan against the Jumpers and the success his team had on Friday, you can't take the victory away from the kids any way you look at it. Yes the conditions weren't the best (for any of the 4 teams) and the locker room situation was what it was BUT I'm saddened by Coach Hines' remarks on behalf of the program. It was tasteless at best and to the point of classless. It was obvious that the SHS was to blame for lack of preparation but these kids have played with and against each other for many years all for the love of the game. Following PC football for years, I can say that we haven't done a great job of accommodating the fans/ teams either. Until now all of our visitors walked the track to sit in bleachers they couldn't even see from. Let's be honest here, the best venue for the CORRELL BOWL is the SHS stadium. First, Ray Correll wasn't anything but a Jumper. Second, everyone had the opportunity to have a great seat for the games. Personally, I thought both teams were pitiful on defense and neither should be too proud of their effort. Also, to see our fans and players overly excited about an injured player does reflect leadership. Would we have been upset if Winston went down or Chris Muse and the fans on the other side went crazy? Something to think about. Should we expect Somerset to come out in 2 years and try to hurt Muse? For the record, didn't Chris play in Somerset's feeder program as a youth? These kids like each other more than the adults. It was a great victory on the field but the saddest day for PC football. Apologies should be in order, but there's too much pride in the way. Both sides.:cry:

Those previous scores mean nothing. Different coach and program at Wayne. In a very close one, RC 22-WC 14. Turnovers may send it the other way.

No offense to my local county brotheren, but Danville wins by 2 TDs and Adam White is talented but not the player the Vandy Kid (Somerset's Cole) is or will be. He is special IMO. Southwestern will be fine as the year goes and I can't wait until the Maroons match-up with them BUT there is an angry Harp playing in Danville and their chinstraps are going to be on tight....lookout for chin music! That said BEAT DANVILLE Warriors anyway....I hope so.

For the record, we care about all of the kids around here. It's fun to have bragging rights and that's why so many show up for the crosstown games. Anyway, there is alot of talent on all three local teams and should be highlighted regularly. I think if there is any animosity it's toward the local media making one or two players "superstars" when this game is about team play. No one can be excluded from failure or success. I've never seen a great rusher or receiver worth anything without his line. Hope the Jumpers can pull together and have a great game and year.

Now that I don't have a game to comment on, I think that SHS will pull this one out for pride's sake 35-22. It was apparent that Somerset's secondary and linebackers weren't aggressive enough and the D line was outmatched all night going 3 on 5. Suggestions for Somerset may be to watch the SW/Rock game and look at the d scheme that Rock had. Their size and personnel is similar to Rock but they make things happen with rotations and blitzes. The backers need to be more aggressive and the secondary needs to play the receivers tight and fight off blocks better. Offensively, SHS can run the ball and most certainly pass it well. The QB needs to make quicker decisions and look off the primary receiver more and hit the open receivers. Thank god they didn't go their too often Friday/Sat! I wish the Jumpers and Warriors much success this week and I hope the Jumpers can win out the rest of their season. SWHS all but one as well and you know which one I'm talking about!

I wasn't trying to say that SHS mistreats or abuses their players, they run their program well. The simple fact was that, in my opinion on that night with the heat of the day, and the length of time until kickoff, Hines had the better play. I'm sure that Cobb had his kids hydrating and fed but with the temp as it was, having the team together in a cool place would have been the better choice IMO. I agree with you on the blocking by the receiving corps, didn't hardly touch Muse or Hines upfield.

As I said earlier, PC was totally prepared for Somerset and I don't just mean in the play selection department. After watching the films PC saw the weakness of the secondary. Every run, except for one, and every Muse score bounced to the sidelines. Perfect execution of their gameplan. All of Hines' runs were done turning the corner. Special teams were excellent especially kick return. Somerset didn't attack on D and let Hines & Muse set up their runs. The 3-4 D from Somerset needs to be tossed unless they start to bring the house and mix things up. Pulaski was fresher and ready to play. The best play of the night however started at 3:00 PM. when SHS decided to spend seven hours pregame around the humidity and heat, while PC had their kids in the comfort of their air conditioned homes hydrating and relaxing until 7:30 to 8:00. Even the warmups had the Jumpers out early while PC had their skill players out without pads up until 12 minutes to kickoff. I don't think it was totally a conditioning issue, but a hydration and heat fatigue factor. IMHO!!

This was an unbelievable game both positively and negatively. The difference was in the preparation of this game. Hats off top Coach Hines and the Maroons!! The PC boys knew where the weaknesses of the Somerset defense were. They attacked the corners and secondary by going wide all night long. Chris Muse had a career night going wide, making one or two quick moves then it was off to the races. The Somerset defense looked OK up the middle but when you play a 3-4 scheme you better have aggressive outside play from the corners, linebackers and your safety has to be a stopper. None of that happened. Hines had a monster night as well going wide, but Muse made that happen with his decision making on pitches. PC's defense did a great job on Cole but Somerset's QB tried to hard to get him the ball. They had other weapons and used them to put up 50 points. The final was 62-50.

Talking about speakers, announcers, yada, yada, yada...let's talk football. Who will be the players (MVP) of their respective games? Who will be the surprises? What bad & good moves will the coaches make? I know that Rock is less known around Pulaski County but let's hear it folks!!!! Less than 21 hours away. :dancingpa :banana: :banana: :thumb:

John Cole-Somerset is definitely a Top 10 not just a Top 50. Rumor has it that he ran a 4.35 at Vandy twice. Pretty reliable source, but the best thing about Cole is his hands and the way he creates separation. He runs routes without flaw and his concentration on the ball is excellent. His size is the only thing that will keep him out of top contention later in his career. He is the only thing that really worries me about Somerset this week against my Pulaski Maroons.:eek:

I'm still waiting for our Maroon faithful to join me in seeing the "upset" of the year. Somerset is a good team but lost alot in Deaton. It would have been nice to have him last year at PC. We took it on the chin over the last 2 years but having Chris Muse experienced this year will be the difference. Chris is good enough right now to pick Somerset apart. He has the receivers to do it and from what I heard Somerset hasn't sacked a quarterback for a long time. That will cost them. PC 20 Somerset 14. That's right!!! I'm the only one who sees it that way.

Was out of town again and missed the scrimmage. Any Maroon faithful out there or GC fans can give me an update. I heard briefly from a friend that PC looked good and had a couple of scores early but can anyone confirm? How did they come about? How was the overall play from the Maroons?

30 yard line is fine but I would hope that you wouldn't do it on the other team's colors/mascot etc. I'll trust that you're doing as you said. It's not a big deal by any means but I think it reflects well on the entire system (Pulaski county schools & area) when it's done properly. I guess I'm jealous because we haven't had much celebrating to do at the end of games in a while. A couple here and there.

My apologies if I offended anyone. I didn't say that there wasn't character, discipline or any of the above in the SW program . My choice of the word goofy was inappropriate....maybe different is more appropriate. I do think however your team can be disrespectful when you are at an away game and you congregate at the other teams 50 yard line. No doubt that Coach Hines has respect for the players and program that SW brings year in and year out as do we all.

Hey guys let's not go there. Unless I'm missing something, it was a "radio" talk show and we listened to it, I'm sure as much as the Somerset fans did. As for the Barber kids there, well they were there at DQ all the time anyway;) . (Sorry, had to throw that one in). Really, I think that both PC & Somerset have the support and next weekend will show that. Southwestern is obsessive about football anyway and parents on the field with their kids after a game with the coaches is goofy at best. They should let them grow up and be men without their screaming mommas following them to the locker room. IMHO. I think Hines does a good job of keeping his players grounded and teaches them that football is important but not the end of the universe. I will say on a positive note that Dale Anderson does the best job of helping his kids that can go to the next level do that. I have heard that he helps other school's kids as well. It is a testimony to him caring about his players and kids in general. Hats off to him for that.:thumb:
