  1. Randy Wood!!!!!!! Coach Wood has made it official this morning by accepting the West Jessamine football position. Already living and teaching in Nicholasville, Wood has decided to make a return to coaching after taking last season off. Before that, Coach Wood guided Morgan County to back to back playoff births and the school's first playoff win in 2004. Coach Wood is extremely gifted. He has an incredible football mind and does his job the right way. Congratulations to Coach Wood and West Jessamine is very lucky to have a coach of his caliber in charge.
  2. I am thinking that it'll probably be the same format as last year. Since the girl's sweet sixteen will be 1 week before the boys then it'll probably be a Saturday Night girls final and a Monday Night boys final The boys state tournament is March 19-22, girls is 12-15 I do believe.
  3. Yes, Mr. Gold has just got back to work after having oral surgery last week. He is doing well and they think he will make a full recovery. Please keep the old ball coach in your thoughts. I also believe Mr. Gold did an interview that may be featured around NCAA tournament time. I do know he went to Indianapolis for an interview about playing for Miss. St. and competing in the NCAA tournament at a time when the civil rights movement was in full swing and was quite historic for a Bulldog team to compete in the tournament. He also was one of, if not, the youngest D-I coach when he took over??? at that time?
  4. That's some great info Professor!
  5. No, I really wasn't talking about the free throws...just making a generalized statement about stats reporting in general. But hearing reports from way back when...it may be a safe bet to assume that a team out of region, really, really got hosed if that many free throws were shot. Didn't Powell Co. return the trip the following year and got drilled by the team they shot so many free throws against the year before? Just what I heard.
  6. Not to take anything away from actual records or any team listed above, but it's very common knowledge around the state that 'stats reporting' in basketball and football can be very, very fraudulent. Padded stats for individiuals are the most notorious, usually in the categories of rushing for football and rebounds for basketball.
  7. The first thing to understand is that we can lead a charge, etc. and I do agree with that. However, the decision making to actually putting these orders into progress resides with the Morgan Co. Bd. of Education and the Morgan County Facilities planning commission. Just for the record, and to shed FACTUAL light on this facility subject. I have before me at this moment a copy of the Morgan Co. School District Facility Plan. KBE Approval Date June 2007 Here are the things that have to happen to put it in motion: 1) Meet the requirements of the elementary schools construction. A 350 pupil capacity consolidating Wrigley and West Liberty and construction of the new school... 2) Major renovations/additions of educational facilities at the High School, now the good part is this: Land is being targeted and construction of a new school will happen very soon, and within the boundaries of the the high school improvements are: 5,000 square foot locker and weight room for football In section 5. Here are two things that should make a future coach somewhat happy that they will have a hand in and part of the process... I. Construction of a Football Field House ($600,000) II. Construct Football Stadium Bleachers for at least 1,500 seat, Pressbox, Restrooms, and concession buidling. ($750,000) This document is approved by the KDE and Division of Facilities Management. Of course, in order to make these things happen is to have the Money in hand...either through "bonding" or private donations, other monies appropriated. When will this happen? As soon as funds are available (the quickest way would be to have money accumulated and set aside for these projects by itself and where it doesn't have to be used for any other area, I presume) But at least, it's documented and this can be made available to those interested parties. We don't have the luxury of a nice large booming coal company locally that helps fund like at other nice places in EKY. There is plenty of community support, but when talking about big bucks....it's up to other sources and not just one person to "lead the charge";) But it will happen...one of these days! Give me 1.35 Million and I'll get it done.
  8. If I could take sticks of dynamite and blow a few things up in the facilities and start over, I would! There are some things that do need addressed and improved.
  9. Morgan County 1. J.C. Brown 2. Randy Cline 3. Chip Collins 4. Alex Collins 5. Darian Finch
  10. This game will be starting on the regular start times of 6:00 for B team and 7:30 for Varsity. The KHSAA site had this game starting at 5:30 and that was incorrect.
  11. Thanks Jolly for the clarification. At any rate, Fleming looks to be a contender for the 61st. Best of luck to the Panthers.
  12. ...and Morgan really did not play very well at all as well. Missed a ton of wide open three point shots early and could only muster 5 first quarter points. Shots began to fall after a banked 3 by reserve Jerred Smith. Logan May got a few to fall and Cougars recaptured the lead. Morgan hopes to get 6'4" Senior Forward Stephen Barnett back sometime this week for either the Elliott or West Carter games. He hasn't played in over two weeks and hopefully can get back to normal shortly. Ugly performance but a win...already have won more than last season and will continue to improve towards the stretch run. Fleming plays very very hard and missed three starters but had some kids who competed and have already improved greatly from the previous year. At Elliott on Monday and at West Carter on the 31st before coming home to entertain the Lion Head sweater of Joe Hampton and the Lewis Co. Lions on Friday night.
  13. Randy Wood left for the following reason: To be with his wife and daughter in Nicholasville, Ky. Take it from somebody who knows him on a personal level. Perhaps someone could meet Randy Friday night at the Morgan Co/Fleming Co. boy/girl basketball doubleheader and ask him point blank why he left... He will say this and do the following actions.... "grab shirt...look you in the eye" "Shucks, man....the facilities are not the best...we all know that...the practice dummies did serve as a good couch and bed on many, many nights though..."
  14. This is the game that Russell just missed 2 shots in 2nd half? Is that correct? Whatever the practice sessions are I'd stick to what they have been doing...congrats girls... Work harder = get better.
  15. Morgan co. his also happy with seeding...they have tremendous talent coming up for the next several, several years.
  16. Didn't the 1992 Ashland Tomcats go undefeated in 16th region play that season? Someone look it up....I think they did.
  17. Great win for our girls!!!!! 1st time in 4000 moons that we have beat East and West in the same season. There is currently a 3 way tie for 1st, if it remains, then Elliott will probably be the #1, with Morgan a #2, East #3, and West #4...but there are still some imortant games to be played, Morgan/West and East/West to still clear things up.
  18. Morgan County is now officially accepting applications for Head Football Coach. Applications can be downloaded from the district website at http://www.morgan.k12.ky.us Interested persons can also obtain further information through Superintendent Joe Dan Gold, Principal Addison Whitt, or Athletic Director Chris Trusty Morgan County is a Class AA school with approximately 675 students.
  19. Congrats to Drew Johnson! Brandon Baker had to score a 1,000...he played for East for 17 years.
  20. Wasn't Orb Bowling a 7'0" that got a scholarship to play at Tennessee? That is what some in West Liberty have said over the years, they said Sandy Hook had an unreal team back in the day. Congratulations to Jonathan Ferguson, a great basketball player and even better person. Congrats from the Morgan Co. bunch.
  21. Tomorrow evening Morgan County will be honoring the school's all-time leading scorer in Leigh Ann Kelly-Wireman. Leigh Ann Kelly scored 1,811 points during her career, breaking Darrell Wheeler's mark of 1,644.
  22. Congrats to East on the big district win. Morgan Co. has made steady improvement all season and continue to do so. This game was much closer than the 11 point loss, it was a 36-35 game in the 4th quarter, but Morgan County couldn't get over the hump. Both teams played hard and congrats to Drew Johnson on scoring his 1,000 point. Look forward to seeing East Carter in about 18 hours from now coming here to play in the Commercial Bank Hoops showcase tomorrow.
  23. In order for Morgan to escape the 4 seed they must either: 1) Win tonight at East and Win at West and East beat West. or if they lose tonight 2) Win at West Carter by 15 points.
