  1. One of the best dunks I saw in a game I was playing in at Raceland was when we went and played @ Ironton. I don't remember the guy's name from Ironton, but he drove the lane and jumped completely over Lance Black and threw one down. Everybody on our bench jumped up in total amazement.....however, by the look on Coach Jenkins' face....he did not appear to be amuzed.
  2. Jason Clark - Raceland ...didn't he have some mad hops?!?!
  3. Is this Ed Dixon the same Ed Dixon who played @ Fairview back in the 90's?
  4. Garrard Co. 7 Somerset 6 Just kidding.... Somerset 47 Garrard Co. 6
  5. I know I don't know how anyone could say something like that with a straight face:D
  6. I wouldn't put him anywhere on the list. Are you kidding me?
  7. I used to love to play @ Central Park. We had some battles w/Ashland during the high school season back in the day. I can still remember Juan Thomas hitting a pitch off of me that probably hasn't landed yet.
  8. Raceland Matt Bostik J.B. Newman Those were the 2 best I watched play for the Rams
  9. Garrard will put up a fight, but in the end, Lincoln is just too much. Lincoln 34 Garrard 18
  10. Anybody played any tournaments @ this facility? What do you think of the setup? I like MSC, however I think the fields are a bit too close together and it turns into a shooting gallery when foul balls start flying all over the place from field to field. It is a good place to watch some good baseball. They have tournaments up there just about every weekend during the summer.
  11. How good will the Golden Lions be this season? Do they have any impact players?
  12. Agreed. I would say that whatever the situation was, that it goes a lot deeper that what happened right before the butt-chewing, and the downfall of that is that the people in attendance only see what they see at that time. I guess I am taken back for the simple fact that during my 4 years playing for Hoof and the couple of years I was still around the program after that, I have never seen him or heard of him being like that. But, with that being said, knowing how much pride Hoof takes in Raceland baseball, if you have a bunch who is not playing "Ram Tough Baseball", you can only take so much and also maybe he doesn't see that light at the end of the tunnel that he has seen with other teams he has coached.
  13. It sounds like Raceland's players aren't 'playing for the name written across their chest'. It also sounds like Hoof is at his wits end with the mental mistakes. However, by no means does that justify him ripping a kid like that...especially through the national anthem. That is a side of Hoof I didn't see when I played for him. Back when I played most of the butt-tearing came from Coach Johnson, but that didn't mean Hoofy wouldn't tear our hide once in a while.....but for the most part that stuff was done after the game, at practice, or in private. We always knew when Hoof was mad.....even before he said a word. I still think Raceland will be alright come tourney time. The 1991 team (16th Region Champions) struggled to end the season with an embarrasing loss to Lawrence County and then went to Boyd Co. and got throttled. The irony of that was that we went on to not only win the Distrct, but we beat both Boyd (semifinals) and Lawrence (finals) in the regional tournament. Now, I am not comparing these kids to that bunch, but nobody gave us a chance that year, but we 'played for the name written across our chest' and it is amazing that when you get your head right and know that you are playing as hard as you can for each and every person on that team and they are doing the same for you....something clicks and the mental mistakes seem to go away.
  14. 1.000 Walks do not count as official at bats.
  15. Speaking of Zornes....Is he coaching anywhere now?
  16. Speaking of "DIP"....I recall a buddy of mine found a DIP street sign and put it in Hoofy's front yard. One of my personal faves was the "Mudhole". We'd have a couple game stretch where we wouldn't play too well and we'd get the "I'll challenge any of you in the Mudhole....I don't care if your 18 or not!" speech.
  17. That will definitly light a fire under 'Hoof. I can still see him getting mad, pulling the bill of his hat down over his eyes and going into the little utility room at the end of the first base dugout and hearing things being knocked around while he is talking/yelling to himself. Hoof is greatest.....To this day I would still run through a wall for him. "We gotta sack it up.....beans and taters in 10 minutes."
  18. The Rams will be OK, East is always tough. Congrats to the JV. Sounds like the JV is getting some quality experience having played 16 games already.
  19. I agree with Strike3. If the problem is that bad, get someone higher up on the totem pole, like the AD, to take a look at the situation. Also, strike up casual conversations with some of the parents about the team and the direction the season is going. Don't try to start a revolt or a mutiny, just be inquisitive. If there is a problem, it won't take long for that come out. Maybe you are seeing something they are not....or vice versa. I think going to the coach...in a parent to coach context could do more harm than good, IMO.
  20. Hoof doesn't really worry about who pitches against who in the regular season. The gears in his mind start to turn once the district draws are announced, but even then, he'll throw his #1 in the first round of district. Even back in my day, Hoof went with the #1 starter in the first round of the district tourney no matter who we drew. One thing about Hoof.....he takes NOBODY for granted come tourney time.
